Interesting list of species captured on wildlife camera set in riparian zone of Mary River … bandicoots, short eared brushtailed possums, swamp rat, maybe melomy, yellow robin, grey shrike thrush, bush turkey AND feral cat. Surprised at diversity despite presence of feral cat.

We count hatched turtle eggs from our nest protection program. Indicates success of nest protection (positive for Landcare members & funders), BUT has 25yrs of nest protection increased the population?????

'So, I had this idea': Scientists dispense insecticide-coated feathers for birds to build nests Donning a helmet and a well-equipped harness, Dr Fernanda Alves looks like she is set to take on an extreme sport. Instead, she is climbing trees to check nesting boxes for a tiny and very rare bird.

TLC are also working with Dr Fernanda Alves to help protect forty-spotted pardalotes by providing feather dispersers & specialised next boxes for our important feathered residents! Read the story at: abc.net.au/news/2026-01-04/forty-spotted-pardalote-bruny-island-endangered-species/106176110

Shameful how this tragic event is being responded to by so many thru politically tinted glasses rather than by their humanity.

Obvious what the environmental consequences will be of an approval decision. But what consequence is there for Watt either way? Not so sure environmental consequences are top of Watts mind.

A dilemma. Eg. foxes ARE eating endangered freshwater turtle eggs. Fox culprits can be baited , shot etc legally. Can’t reduce predation pressure from native predators eg goannas. Possible to reduce predation from all species at very localised area but resource intensive & unachievable at scale.
