Shoutout to our EDL student Ben Sheridan, Principal at the Elementary School in Kinshasa, who wrote this lovely reflection on Connection, Caring, and Belonging in the @whatschoolcouldbe.bsky.social Chronicle. www.whatschoolcouldbe.org/blog/connect...

Talking to AI is shockingly like writing PhD qualifying exam questions. Like, exactly the same to get great in-depth answers.
Freed from some Admin. responsibilities ... can write more. Doing so here and calling it "The School Code" ... which intersects a lot of different parts of my life: open.substack.com/pub/bathon/p...
There you go ... a bunch of simple stuff could make a pretty big difference. I like those kinds of changes ... and this space just feels Ripe to me for a bunch of simple changes as the Drill and Kill fades.
Love the creativity! Had a Grad. student lately make a strong case for Play (which we know has many benefits) ... and just thinking a couple simple changes might go a long way. The 20 min. recess feels more like something we do mostly because we've always done it that way. Wondering who likes it.
KY elementary kids get something like 20 minutes of recess. We also rank high in childhood obesity. Is the time spent on reading/math or the time spent exercising better for the learner's overall wellness and development at that age? Not saying I have the answer, just seriously wondering? Thoughts?
Pedro Noguera led the panel and pulled together some local deeper learning leaders who spoke to how their schools were having success across a variety of domains. But, certainly put the challenge to #UCEA to get into that work and help them.
Love hearing from #UCEA past presidents on the organization, the past, and its future. 70 years of positive change. What's next???
(See my previous post).
Proud to be a longtime part of this great organization.

So proud of #UCEA for linking together questions of deeper learning, PBL, dual enrollment, schedule changes ... and joy and equity.
Yes!! Yes!! Yes!!! This is the path.
We can improve our schools by focusing on this.

Amazing #CASTLE session at #UCEA on Tech Intersections with Education Leadership. AI informed, equity focused, internationally informed, policy curious ... super cool. Learn more here: schooltechleadership.org

Damn nice job @mattstier.bsky.social pulling all those together and thanks for the starter pack @uceagsc.bsky.social. Excited to see everyone this week at #UCEA
Yes. Scouting staple. Which I assume was fruit punch.
The J-TERM schedule at STEAM Academy for this year (a week + at the start of January where learners/teachers go off-script and learn lots of new things they want to learn). One of my favorite parts of STEAM. @karennole678.bsky.social
Thanks and done ... if you know other KY educators, just suggest and tag me. I'm trying to keep up somewhat :)
Added. Know of any others?
Good news. "Nearly 90 percent of the nation’s 2,275 bachelor’s degree granting institutions remain either test optional, leaving it up to students to choose whether or not to submit scores, or “test blind,” meaning that they do not consider test scores at all." www.newamerica.org/education-po...
More of our #UKNextGen team joining ... all worth a follow! @karennole678.bsky.social @lusettlesyoung.bsky.social @loratshields.bsky.social @jwebbschs.bsky.social #KYUnitedWeLearn
@donhackmann.bsky.social awesome to see you here. Miss hanging out. Have you spoke with @jaysonrichardson.bsky.social on the study of the ed leadership professorate? If not, some interest there.
Got this question in my school law class for #EdLeadership last night from several students ... @noellerson.bsky.social and team are tightly connected and good to listen to as things unfold.
recalling early days of T - an article I wrote for @edsurge.bsky.social in 2013 “how Twitter tore down my District’s Walls” - I still was a supt & valued social media because of sharing, connectivity, learning across boundaries www.edsurge.com/news/2013-09... #edusky #eduskychat #rethinklearning
Ouch ... great on their part and love they are seeking authenticity ... but, story would have been better if it was the result of great class projects.
Never left ... Doesn't have intense school technology focus of years past in the #UKSTL days, but we used lots of the learning in the design ... then @bethrous.bsky.social took it to a much higher level still.

This must rank pretty high in terms of the best first post ever! Well done today (and all the days) 🏆

Well, I just made one for Kentucky Education, but I'm actually happy to defer to you. Wonder if there is a way to co-manage it (probably not). @alicekeeler.com seems to have the best plan with just trying to manage off-site in Google.
Seems like something not just for K-12, but for Higher Education as well.
