Early this morning, the Trump administration carried out an illegal military action in Venezuela—acting unilaterally, bypassing Congress, and violating both U.S. law and international norms. This action targeted a sovereign nation, involved the capture of its leader, included declarations of intent to occupy, and was accompanied by public signaling toward broader war. Nicolás Maduro is an authoritarian strongman whose regime has brutalized, impoverished, and terrorized the Venezuelan people. That reality, however, does not justify an unprecedented and unlawful act of US aggression. Trump’s actions will further destabilize South America by creating an inevitable power vacuum in Venezuela, while simultaneously sending a dangerous global message: that authoritarian leaders may seize territory by force without fear of American consequence. This is especially grotesque given that Donald Trump campaigned on ending foreign wars and putting “America First.” Instead, this reckless escalation appears designed to distract from his failed policies, declining public support, and the growing scrutiny surrounding his long-standing associations with convicted sex traffickers Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. As of our statement on January 3, 2026, we are watching an administration scramble to retroactively justify a dangerous act of war through fear, misinformation, and spectacle. Indivisible Stanislaus demands that members of Congress, who swore an oath to defend the Constitution against enemies foreign and domestic, fulfill their duty. Congress must immediately intervene to halt the Trump regime’s reckless destabilization of Venezuela and the wider South American region. We have seen this playbook before. We know where it leads. Learn from history. Do not repeat it.

No Kings II was a peaceful, well-organized event that drew strong visibility at the McHenry and Briggsmore intersection in Modesto. Throughout the day, community members stopped by, drove past, or gathered near local businesses to see what was happening, ensuring our message rang clear: America has never had, and never will have, a dictator or king. We extend our gratitude to the organizations and volunteers who co-hosted this event with us, including the Modesto Progressive Democrats, Central Valley Democratic Club, Stanislaus County Democratic Central Committee, and 50501. Your collaboration and dedication were essential to the event’s success.
