When do I get to pay less money for anything? I'd even go for the price staying the same.

Celebrate the equinox this Saturday (21st) and support one of the very few politicians I like without reservations. Plus food and drink. I'll be there, and if you find me, I'll share a wild Anchorage story I've never written or posted about.
omg, glad I'll be there!
Wild thought: maybe the twin strategy to kill hundreds of renewable energy projects & bumbling into an oil supply crisis is not working. We can achieve energy independence if we actually invest in infrastructure that powers itself.

Plus the urgent reality of actual external threats, climate & the geopolitical implications of it. We are out of time to spare and being told to pretend it's not real.
The federal government now operates like the mob, because of the people empowered to run it, burning up taxpayer money to commit violent fits of rage against the people who are forced to paying their bloated salaries.
Women have served and fought in wars for centuries, whether their peers & society knew about it or not. Having trouble dealing with women being in the military mostly says a lot about the men who feel that way.

Afternoon update: AK flag isโ๐ฌ
Morning wind report:
US flag at the Anchorage LIO getting frayed at the edge, Alaska flag just barely hanging on. There's a metaphor in there somewhere...
Turns out people seem to want us to stop losing the War on Poverty.
A powerful fall storm hitting a swath of Alaskaโs coast triggered evacuations in several communities including Kotzebue, where officials urged residents to relocate to a shelter before conditions worsened.
Just leaving this here
Basically, running all the carnival rides as the support structures rust through & the bolts rattle out. "Come & have fun before it all collapses!"
Except these are our public lands, wildlife, ecosystems, life that has a right to exist and thrive.

Price spikes in health insurance premiums mean more people just won't buy it, because they can't afford it. That means more uninsured people. That means more bankruptcies due to medical emergencies & expensive treatment. And that means more misery.
Please email me @ anna.brawley@anchorageak.gov with some details & I'll look into this

I'm sorry that happened. Until we stop slashing safety nets & get serious as a country about our health crises, the city will continue to manage a problem it's not designed to be able to solve alone.
Are you saying that if we had more student housing, we would have fewer homeless students?
What we all spend time and energy on, whether creating it or responding to it, is so far from what our actual urgent problems are, like to the whole planet. Plenty of people know that, and we're all stuck in the same circus. Unserious.
From Cambridge to Seattle and Anchorage to Austin, leaders know "abundance policies and our safety-net policies are part of the same comprehensive strategy and policy vision."

* Knik Arm Bridge, lol
I don't know who needs to hear this, but the induced demand principle of traffic means the Kink Arm Bride as a daily commute would be worse & more congested. More attractive in theory, but 1 exit point, crawling to the bottleneck.
Imprisoning/institutionalizing the poor for being poor is an old strategy: debtors prison, exploited labor in the workhouse. Most of 20th century U.S. history is about deciding to not accept so many people suffering & dying, doing something about it.
And people who lead us want those prisons back.
