🚨 NEW: Climate change is already causing 30,000 deaths per year - a global annual economic loss of $100-350B USD - but the true damage is probably 10x higher. Out TODAY in Nature Climate Change: the first systematic look at the science of "health impact attribution" 🔓 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

fig.1 from the paper showing the relationship between control and realism in conservation physiology

Conservation physiology researchers typically use lab or field-based approaches, which are often seen as polar and distinct. This review advocates for an integrative approach across the lab-field continuum, to better inform conservation policy and practice.

Fire suppression makes wildfires more severe and accentuates impacts of climate change and fuel accumulation - Nature Communications Fire suppression removes less-extreme wildfires, concentrating fires under extreme conditions. The authors use model simulations to show how this “suppression bias” intensifies fire behavior and effec...

"The result is akin to the over-prescription of antibiotics: in our attempt to eliminate all [forest] fires, we have only eliminated the less intense fires and instead selected for primarily the most extreme events and created higher fuel loads and more suppression-resistant fires."🧪🌏
