Before the twin fossil shocks of the 1970s, GDP growth ran in parallel with fossil growth.

Afterwards, electricity took its place – the new fuel of economic growth.

Even then, the first signs of the #electrotech economy were emerging ⚡

Throughout history there have been non-religious people who have believed that this life is the only life we have, that the universe is a natural phenomenon with no supernatural side, and that we can live ethical and fulfilling lives on the basis of reason and humanity. humanists.uk/humanism/

Another thoughtful, well researched video summary of the areas in which the current US administration is eroding national and international values while distracting everyone with its antics in the Middle East. These summaries and the associated Trump Action Tracker are truly worrying.

What is secularism? Made for schools and families, the animation introduces secularism in clear terms as a practical way of organising society that people with different worldviews can share.

We live in a pluralistic society. That is one in which people have different backgrounds and beliefs, different answers to life's big questions. Do our disagreements have to lead to conflict or can we live well together? Check out our new animation! understandinghumanism.org.uk/secularism/

Claims of church revival debunked after YouGov withdraws ‘fraudulent’ poll The poll led to a number of stories about a supposed resurgence in Christianity

Headlines claimed last year that Britain was experiencing a ‘spiritual revival’. This was based on a report by the Bible Society. Following our analysis, the poll has been declared fraudulent, and we're pleased to see this correction make headlines.

AI got the blame for the Iran school bombing. The truth is far more worrying LLMs-gone-rogue dominated coverage, but had nothing to do with the targeting. Instead, it was choices made by human beings, over many years, that gave us this atrocity

This is a truly disturbing read, and something I wouldn't normally post, but it is very well written. The bottom line: People kill People, not A.I.

Quiet Revival myth spread rapidly and impactfully around the world

At the time we pointed out why its claims were implausible and likely down to a survey error

YouGov have today admitted it had 'fraudulent' respondents. The report has now been retracted, but after much damage has already been done

A viral dog rescue from 2016 is now immortalized with a statue in Kazakhstan. When a dog fell into the Sayran reservoir, bystanders formed a human chain to pull him to safety. The statue is a reminder of the value of unity, solidarity and collective action. 14/10 for all

About three-quarters of the world live in countries that are net importers of fossil fuels.

Recent tensions in the Middle East highlight the risks of a fossil energy system, whereas a clean, electrified energy system is far more resilient to disruptions.

HUMANISTS VALUE INDIVIDUALITY, CREATIVITY, AND COMMUNITY

Humanists recognise that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to a happy life.
We have unique hobbies, preferences, and tastes.
But at the same time, we still have much more in common.
Most people aspire to lead good, happy, decent lives.

Humanists see this as the one life we have.
This means we all need the freedom to make our own choices over our own lives.

And yet living well isn’t just a private matter.
Our choices affect others. A good life is one lived with consideration, kindness, and an awareness of our impact on the people and world around us.

Humanists today place compassion and connection at the heart of living well.
We try to live thoughtfully, act compassionately, and always celebrate human joy, creativity, discovery, and achievement.

Electric vehicles avoided oil demand equivalent to 70% of #Iran’s exports in 2025 🚗⚡

Replacing imported oil used in transport with electric vehicles could reduce total global fossil fuel imports by a THIRD, saving around $600 billion per year.

So long, hereditary peers – but the Lords is still full of absurd anachronisms | Polly Toynbee Two-thirds of voters want an elected second chamber. The government needs a radical legacy: it should use its rare majority for this, says Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee

Removing hereditary peers is a welcome step for our democracy. But truly modernising the House of Lords should also mean ending the automatic voting rights of the 26 Church of England bishops – a privilege dating back to the 14th century. @pollytoynbee.bsky.social

Brexit has not been good for our country, for growth, for prices in the shop. It’s almost 10 years since we voted Leave. That ship has sailed, but there’s an awful lot we can do to improve our trading relations. Where that requires alignment in our national interest, we should absolutely align. Rachel Reeves MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Regretting the past is futile: we should look to the future and continue repairing our relationship with Europe. This can start with aligning, but should not end there. We must strive to realign the UK as an associate member of European agencies, but rejoin key initiatives such as the single market.
