The data is in.
2024 was the warmest year on record, and probably in the whole of human history – about 1.6°C warmer than the pre-industrial period.
More than 1 billion individual thermometer measurements have been condensed into a single vital number.

I just created a Starter Pack with profiles interesting to science/environmental journalists. Glad to add profiles (once I learn how to do that 🤔)

'The confusion stems in part from the way the term gets tossed and twisted between disciplines (...) But it’s also because truly wrapping one’s head around entropy requires taking some deeply uncomfortable philosophical leaps.'

I can see the thermomorphogenesis community is slowly growing here, so here's a Starter Pack to help with that!
Please let me know below who else to include in this list.

Hey @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social, I think you need to add another icon here 🦋
Amazing
And love that visualization!
So many people added to pack 1 this weekend we had to make pack 2. Makes sure you refresh for followers on pack one to see them all!

Just found out about the Genomics/Bioinformatics feed. Triggered by 🧬 + 🖥 in your post.
Great! Thank you @afreeparticle.com for setting this up.

#teamMassSpec here is a starting pack in case you just moved over, or in case you've been absent for a while. This is #proteomics or #massspec related. The pack is not comprehensive but it's a start.

CO, in Emissions in advanced economies fell to their level of 50 years ago Advanced economies saw a record decline in their emissions ... After falling by around 4.5% in 2023, emissions in advanced economies were lower than they were fifty years ago in 1973. Although emissions in this group of countries have plumbed similar lows in 2020, 1974-75 and 1982-83, there are two important differences. Firstly, in contrast with the previous temporary declines in 1974-75 and 1982-83, advanced economy emissions have been in a structural decline since 2007. Secondly, advanced economy GDP expanded by around 1.7% in 2023, compared to stagnation or outright recession in these other periods. The decline in 2023 therefore represents the largest percentage drop in advanced economy emissions outside of a recessionary period. This is just so fucking great to see 😎❤️

Direct Messages (DMs) are now available on Bluesky!
Learn more about the built-in safety features and how to use them 🧵:
Friends, I wrote up a quick guide to getting started on Bluesky for folks who are used to old Science Twitter.
Please share it with your folks who are joining. And please let me know if I missed anything or got anything wrong. 🧪

Newcomers (and existing): a quick post on things you really should do to get the most of this place.
1) Feeds are key. You need to save and pin them (and make new ones as you wish) Ex. Here are the feeds I use. You can search these by name via Feeds -> Discover Feeds -> search.

Exciting news: We’re taking another step to making Bluesky an open network for public conversations.
Around the end of this month, we’ll release a public web interface. With this, you’ll be able to view posts on Bluesky without being logged in on an account.
One more 🧵 today! As Bsky doesn't have a way to bookmark posts, one option is to make your own "My Bookmarks" feed!
Follow the steps below & you'll be able to simply reply "#bookmark" on a post to save it to your own personal feed of bookmarked posts on your profile for easy access later (1/x) 👇
Screenshot of the Bluesky Settings, with Content languages selected. All languages are unchecked in the menu, ensuring that feeds show all posts.
Regarding HASHTAGS & FEEDS:
HASHTAGS # are used here to index posts in different feeds.
Important for FEEDS: Make sure the uncheck all languages in SETTINGS under CONTENT LANGUAGES, or the feeds will be filtered (not by post language but device language!!) (see image).
“Human rights should, can, and do apply to all humans” is not and should not be a radical statement.
The amount of effort that some people go to try to obscure this basic concept is truly wild.
Cis allies: your trans friends need you to step up. Yes, even in the UK.
The transphobic rhetoric coming out the Conservative conference will probably never make it into law, but the damage it does is huge.
Please. Push back against friends with "reasonable concerns". Make transphobia unacceptable
Ooh I just discovered a new feature in blue sky mobile app - include posts from your feeds in the main feed! It works great so you don’t have to check your feeds specifically.
Welcome to all the new Bluesky users!
As you begin your journey on Bluesky, you may encounter some interesting concepts and technical features that require a good and simple breakdown.
Below is a thread of explainers on some cool concepts and technical features you should know about 🧵👇
