Male Black-throated Blue Warbler perched on a thin branch surrounded by blooming mountain laurel flowers, set against a soft green forest background.
I’ve been organizing photos from last year and found this gem.

Can’t wait for 2026 warbler season to start!

A pair of wood frogs in amplexus float in a shallow vernal pool. The image is taken at water level, showing their heads and bright eyes above the surface with a mirror-like reflection beneath them.
Spring begins in the vernal pools.
Wood frogs emerge from the forest floor for a breeding frenzy that lasts only a few nights each year. Blink and you miss it.

Kestrels are one of my favorite small raptors to photograph — tiny but full of attitude.

American kestrel perched on the tip of a tall mullein stalk against a soft winter hillside background with cool earthy tones.

I love photographing birds in their environment just as much as tight portraits — it tells more of the story.

Hi Bluesky — I’m a Pennsylvania wildlife photographer focusing mostly on birds and small moments in nature.
I’ve been away from this account for a while but figured it was time to revive it. I’ll be sharing some of my favorite photos from the past year over the next few days — keep an eye out.

They hunt mostly by sound and fly low over fields listening for voles.

Short-eared owl flying low over golden marsh grass in warm evening light with wings extended and bright yellow eyes facing the camera.
Short-eared Owl skimming the marsh grasses at sunset in Delaware.
One of the most exciting winter raptors to watch and when you find some flying an hour or two before dark it’s magic.
📍Somewhere in Delaware 😉

We discovered a set of ponds owned by a HoA yesterday that was full of Snow Geese. We spent an hour or so watching them from the walkway and snapped some pictures. I like this one as three birds were circling the pond look for a spot to park. #birds #snowgeese #lancasterpa

Cold morning yesterday but finally was able to get out for some birding! This Eastern Bluebird was watching the ground and would occasionally fly down and grab something and then fly back to perch and watch in a tree along a field. #birds #easternbluebird #canonr7 #lancasterpennsylvania

We had heard there was a western bird - a Townsend’s Solitaire visiting Pennsylvania where I live. So the Mrs and I took a ride to the location and actually found it! What a cool thing to find a bird so far out of its home range. #birds #birdphotography #nature #naturephotography #PAWilds

I think snowy landscape sometimes let you spot things you might otherwise miss. For example, this beautiful Red Fox was spotted trotting along a stream in a field that is usually many shades of browns this time of year and I imagine it would make the fox very hard to see on any other day. #nature

Here is a picture of an Eastern Meadowlark. I had never seen one of these before. It was cool to have one land close enough to snap a photo. #birds #birdphotography #nature #wildlife #naturephotography #wildlifephotography #canonr7

I usually spray and pray and hope I get a good shot! Still learning and trying to get better though. Thanks for your comment.

Here is a picture of a Red Shouldered Hawk at Gettysburg National Battlefield in Pennsylvania. I watched him from a tree and knew he was looking at something but didn’t know what he saw or when he’d make his move. Here he is right before attack. Unfortunately he missed! But still a cool shot. #birds
