JIT Image Manipulation is already bundled with #Sym8 β€” no manual update required.
But it also works with existing Symphony CMS projects still running on PHP 7 β€” that's why the extension is in its own GitHub repository.

These improvements will ship with Sym8 version 2.84.1 on December 2.

The JIT Image Manipulation extension has been improved!
It now supports two additional image formats: BMP and #AVIF.

Compatibility has been enhanced by adding conditional imagedestroy() and unset() logic for #PHP7 and #PHP8 environments.

🧩 The same applies to the Extensions backend page.
#Sym8 takes this idea further:

πŸ“‚ The Extensions page now lists all extensions – including extended details and a direct link to each README.

πŸ” Did you know? For years, #Symphony had a menu item for the internal Activity Log – but it was hidden.
In navigation.xml:
<item link="/system/log/" ... visible="no" />

In #Sym8, this β€œhidden feature” is no longer a secret:
βœ… The log is now directly accessible in the backend via the System menu.

Is your #PHP version still safe?

πŸ”΄ PHP 8.0 – ❌ End of life (no updates)
🟑 PHP 8.1 / 8.2 – ⚠️ Security fixes only
🟒 PHP 8.3 / 8.4 – βœ… Active support

Sym8 makes this visible right in your dashboard β€” no guesswork, no digging in docs.

Why mandatory?

Because the dashboard restores transparency & trust:
β€’ immediate clarity about the environment you’re running
β€’ always up-to-date with release information

With Sym8 you don’t need to dig through docs or changelogs β€” the essentials are right in your backend.

This versioning scheme is designed to restore trust among developers by making it immediately clear which PHP version is fully supported β€” without needing to read through changelogs or compatibility notes.

Why Sym8 starts at version 2.84.0?

There is a clear logic behind the scheme:
β€’ 2️⃣ β†’ reflects the underlying Symphony codebase
β€’ 8️⃣4️⃣ β†’ maximum supported PHP version (8.4)
β€’ 0️⃣ β†’ patch level
