"A controversial 1080 drop on Stewart Island has led to a 52 percent population boost for threatened Southern New Zealand dotterel/pukunui."

not sure it's still happening but for the entire 2010s every single EV made by large car companies was designed to suck as much as possible: in looks, function etc, to sabotage EV growth
What's your favourite pair of related/unrelated facts?
Lake Taupō surface is at an elevation of approximately 356 metres above sea level.

A human being is likely to survive an impact of about 40km/h.
The top speed of a human is about 40km/h.
I haven't had a long enough breath to talk about how AI is ruining the open web. API after API I used to use is closing - literally because paying the $$$ required to feed these impersonation machines is prohibitive.
10th day of lowest Arctic sea ice area in April on record.

This is what a gravity well actually looks like.
Have you been watching the #kakapo webcam? After a few power issues it’s back online. I’ll be at the nest in about an hour from now, so tune in then if you’re free! www.youtube.com/live/K_j3aaE...
Typical representation of a gravity well with a planet sitting at the bottom of a funnel.
None of this silly nonsense.

Last week we transferred 4 #kakapo chicks from Whenua Hou to Anchor Island; having moved 5 in March. With a better food supply on Anchor the mothers there can support two chicks per nest better than on Whenua Hou, where the rimu fruit has failed to ripen. 📸 Sarah Manktelow #kakapo2026 #conservation

There are currently 94 #kakapo chicks alive, with 59 on Anchor, 22 on Whenua Hou, at least 10 on Te Kākahu and 3 in hospital. We lost a chick to a freak flooding of a nest earlier this week on Anchor. #kakapo2026 #conservation #birds
Slowest autumn transition ever this year.

I don't want my tools to guess.
Klein: The companies call it “hallucinations.” It makes mistakes. They have not been able to figure out how to fix the mistakes.
And then when you ask the companies, “How did you get there?” they can’t fully explain it. This is a strange thing about this technology.
zackeryatlas 12h The degradation of society: 1. Celebrating the k!lling of a CEO 2. Cheering on warehouse arsons 3. Making heroes out of people who attempt political violence You can be outraged at the system and still not glorify violence. These aren't wins. This is a society losing its moral compass. [Coming from a liberal btw]
