So who is going to step up and somehow create a new thing for artists, authors, makers, single traders, indie musicians, all the creatives who lost their platforms? We have an audience, we just got cut off when the social networks went useless. Publisher etc still expect us to do marketing. HOW?!
Yes lol, and UK 😊
often browse bsky solely through my ‘Cool Artists’ feed, very peak internet experience
not annoying at all Frank! I like seeing your work pop up regularly and it reminds me to re-post my own stuff too 😊
An illustration by Kip Alizadeh showing 4 characters. A white cat, looking up at a red butterfly. Next to a mum with tanned skin and a black bob, holding a baby with curly brown hair and brown skin. Next to her is a little girl with tan skin and brown hair, wearing a bright reddy pink jumper.
just found this character reference I made for A Celebration of You 🥰 #KidLitArt
The other fabulous part of the AI publicity plan is “teach this junkware everything you know so that I, a rich CEO, can use it to put you out of work”. Wild how that isn’t being received with enthusiasm by the general public.
The way profit maxxing corpo culture has invaded every form of art through algorithms pushing people into daily posting is really weighing on me lately. Efficiency and regularity of making "content" being prized above all else feels so grim, man.
Artists, show what built your style!
Shirley Hughes, Brian Wildsmith, Mary Blair, Matthew Forsythe, probably more, but this has actually given me some ideas on how to push my work 😌
Visual development art by Tadahiro Uesugi for Carole & Tuesday (2019), dir. Shinichiro Watanabe, Bones
I love this bookseller review, and I love this illustration by #GillianReid! (I think it’s my favorite.)
10 more days to preorder. I appreciate your support more than you know. 🎩

yall remember… companies dont make art, people do. there is no disney art, there is no unreal or tencent art. they create a wrapper around someone else’s art. find out who makes the stuff you love
Mixed media illustration of a green-skinned purple-haired witch waving a magic wand above a pot of daffodils who have eyes. There are other plants with eyes and mouths in the background as well and noted everywhere. A little girl is entering the greenhouse looking shocked.
Illustration of a two anthromorphic zebras in a sculpture studio. One of them has no stripes and is sculpting a bust of the other zebra who is sitting in a stool with her eyes closed.
Illustration of a little girl and her dad in the kitchen. The dad is stirring a meal in a pot on the stove. There are aroma lines coming out of the pot and the girl has closed her eyes and is taking in the smell. There is a black cat peeking above the counter top and looking at the pot.
Mixed media illustration of a boy wearing pajamas sitting on a desk with his teddy bear next to him, looking out the window at the Ursa Major constellation.

A dragon swoops over a blasted landscape, its rider prepares to shoot an arrow from the dragons back.
Two women stand ready to fight in a mysterious combined landscape of ruins and alien flora, lit in a violet light.
A knight stands holding a mace, they are wearing a filthy cape and have a lantern filled with worms, their hounskull is crowned with a pair of antlers.
A barbarian stands atop a staircase wielding a large sword, he is surrounded by skeletons who seem to wish him harm. All are bathed in a scarlet light.

2026 limited color pet portrait commission In a low ceiling cellar shop, a cat sits along the stores counter on a large pillow. Next to him are scales, various alchemical ingredients, bubbling cauldrons, and a discarded pile of fish heads and skeletons in a basket. The proprietors paws are folded, and his expression suggests he thinks himself superior to the viewer.
2026 limited color anniversary portrait commission On a rooftop, a woman peers over a large telescope she embraces, to look down at the viewer and her frightened cat. Behind her stars swirl and fall. At her feet are horror game/manga figurines, headphones, tankobon, and a piece of music notation. On the same serving cart as the cat, sits a meal of snails and wine.
2026 full color illustration memorial commission A long haired tortoiseshell in a blue tunic crosses the threshold into a cave teaming with jewels, fossils, and plant life. Behind her is a canyon and village. She slings on a pack and her eyes linger upward, lantern full and bright.
2026 full color fantasy pet portrait In a ruined tower overcome with plant growth, two cats wrap a rope around the neck of a roc. On the landing of a spiral staircase, one plucks out a song on her harp and sings, while the other works carefully to secure the bird.

got the burn out from making the picture books quite bad. I don’t think I’m really cut out to ride the diversity waves in publishing esp income-wise. time to pivot a bit. 🙏

I think this is brilliant Denis! I love the layers of colour. And faces are sooo hard in watercolour, but you’ve nailed it tbh
Pea flower, gouache (there are two mantises in this painting 🙂↕️)
technology peaked when everything was made of coloured clear plastic and you could see all the insides
