It is entirely possible that bbq potato chips are essential to the writing process. Further study is required to determine precise utility and effects. #amwriting
Wrote two fountain pens dry today (in fairness, their ink was already low) and got another chapter and a half edited. Productivity! #amwriting #amediting #writingcommunity
An update on my bee friends: it has been chilly the last few days and I have not seen them. I am hoping that as it warms up, they are too busy with the flowers in the garden to continue trying to invade my window.
Just learned that my kindle is one of the ones Amazon is functionally bricking and I am heartbroken. Yes, it’s an over decade old—and it works perfectly. They had to purposely remove a basic function in order to make replacing it any kind of temptation.
I guess I need a new e-reader. Suggestions?
Today I am living audaciously and have opened the window. Hopefully, yesterday's success continues and my bee friends do not try to join me at my desk. #amwriting #amediting
Bee update: the citronella seems to have worked. My bee buddies came around, investigated their usual entrance, then flew away. The downside is that I didn't want to have the window open anyway because it smells too strongly of citronella right now 🙃
This novel is dystopian science fiction, definitely on the soft side of scifi, with military and alien elements.
The nib is very smooth and nice to write with! The pen is on the larger side, and a little bigger than I prefer, but it is light enough to still be comfortable for me.
I will say that the medium nib on this pen writes the same as my TWSBI Eco broad nib. Which is fun! But some paper doesn't appreciate that much ink 😂
What if there was nothing I could do to stop it? No plan this big could hinge on me alone. The wheels of the great machine were already in motion. Throwing my body in its path would not so much as cause a bump.
This #wipsnip comes from a section where Maki is going through an ethics meat grinder. What do you do if you agreed to do a bad thing for a good reason, but the cost is higher than you ever imagined? #wipsnips #writingcommunity #sff #amwriting #amediting
Today's writing soundtrack! I'm listening to Returnal over on youtube and loving it. #amwriting
I am using a citronella oil blend dropped in the drainage holes, hoping the bees think it is now too stinky to go in. We will see if this works.
It is a beautiful day, and I long to write with the window open. I am just hoping to do so without, you know. Bees.
And so, a solution: bee deterrence. I did some reading, looking for a way to discourage them from using the drainage holes. I don't want to hurt them. I think it is the same two bees every day. I am fond of bees in general, and of these two in particular. I still do not want them in the house.
This is a problem for several reasons. One, I worry they are trapped (yet each day, after several hours of bumbling, they find their way back out). Two, I cannot open my window on beautiful, sunny days.
Because there are bees.
As I said, bees outside are lovely.
I do not want bees in my office.
Because these bees do not just visit the window. They crawl through a small hole near the bottom of my window screen (one intended to allow rainwater to drain, as far as I can tell), and spend several hours crawling and bumbling around (adorably) between my window and the screen.
The window in my office faces south and gets beautiful sunlight. Each day, as the sun begins to shine in that window, a pair of bumblebees make their way over to visit. This might seem cute, even charming. But it is not. You will understand shortly.
Today's quest is bumblebee deterrence. This is a bit strange, since I am generally delighted by bees--when they are outdoors. However, I have two regular bumblybee visitors who are keen to get a bit closer than that. 🧵
It should take more vacation days for real 😂
Whenever I’m stuck I have to switch back to handwriting!
The resin has so much going on! It’s just as pretty in person.
Writers, if you could say one thing to your inner critic, what would it be? (Aside from "shut up", that's a given.) #writingprompt
Writing by hand seems to make my brain work better. The fountain pen is less fatiguing, and some days a fun ink color is a good motivator. And when I type things up, it's a great opportunity for re-writes and noticing things I missed during the initial draft.
I prefer to start out writing by hand, with a fountain pen and paper. Whatever structure and mapping I need goes into a spreadsheet. Actual drafting is a mix of handwriting and typing into a word processor--I've tried more specific writing software, but didn't find it added to my process.
Today’s writing implement: Asvine C80 in the astonishing purple swirl, inked with a perfectly matching Diamine Monboddo’s Hat. Making notes as I work through this novel draft. #fountainpen #amwriting #amediting
Today's #wipsnips is a short one:
"They didn’t care what I had to say. They just needed to make sure I wasn’t a liability."

I’m not on here because I’m too busy watching Artemis II’s moon fly-by.
See you on the other side.
You BETTER write the book you wanna read. Because you're gonna have to read is twenty seven THOUSAND TIMES.
As someone who does not have a tiktok, occasionally there will be drama that I see moving past my awareness like the shadow of a leviathan beneath the water, and whooo boy. Am I glad I don't have to deal with that thing.
Watching it live with my kids made me so scared they were about to experience the same thing. It was way more difficult than I anticipated.
