I'll now use the spots to try and infer when that happens. This means that if you watch a DXpedition in the planning phases and they start early, you'll still get notified!
That work has been done, but I need to let it run for a week or two before I can assess the results.

I'm also looking to improve DXpedition dates on the backend. In my experience, it's not uncommon for some of them to start a day early, go a few extra days, or go QRT because of bad weather.
I've already posted about the extra icons for DXCC/Callsign/DXP spots in Live Spots. But I'm also adding SOTA! It's not something I've done in the past, but I know that folks love it, especially in other places. It will get the same treatment as POTA.
Upcoming features for QRV; a thread 🧵
I thought that I would summarize everything here. It's probably not going live until May, since I have a vacation coming up and don't want to spend it debugging the app 😀
NASA and Mamdani are proving that Americans are desperate to see their money spent in ways they feel good about.
This, however, is not the same thing as simply spending the money on things we would feel good about but never know happened. People need to be able to see it.
Working on some small improvements to QRV:
- Icons will appear in lives spots for watched callsign, DXCC, and DXP (in addition to POTA)
- You can turn those icons on/off in the settings
- Mac users can now customize their shortcuts! Anything from ⌘1 to ⌘0 instead of the current 1-4
Thanks for reminding me to put in my pre-order!
Yeah, I have a crossband yagi and used that. You have to have really good aim! Even a degree off, and I started getting static
Nicely done! I only got 4 myself -- the passes in my area just didn't align with my schedule this time.
A ham radio mounted vertical in the passenger footwell of a 2023 Chevy Bolt. It's held in place with a 3D printed sleeve and vertical arm.
Today I 3D printed a new mounting solution for my IC-2730A. The vertical arm hijacks existing trim screws for mounting; the radio is held in a sleeve with M4 screws into the radio mounting points. It's a 2023 Chevy Bolt if anyone wants the files. Print in ABS! #amateurradio #hamradio #3dprinting
It's all we wanted! Well except for my one friend who thinks it should have been a DLC. You can tell that it's been reworked technically, which wouldn't have been easy to do as DLC.
Nicely done! I missed my passes yesterday, but I’ll try again today and tomorrow morning.
"QRV 1.15 release announcement graphic with orange background. Headline reads 'QRV 1.15 is out and better than ever!' with bullet points: Filter faster than an FT2 exchange, Get frequency info at a glance, More widgets. Shows four app screenshots: a dark-themed DXCC country list for the 60m band with a context menu offering options like filtering and alerts; a UTC clock widget; a POTA activity widget showing spot counts by band; and a Band Activity widget displaying 30-minute spot totals per band with solar condition indicators."
Woohoo! QRV 1.15 is out on iOS. I swear I can never tell how long the review process will take. As usual, the Mac update is taking way longer; by the time they approve one, I've already prepared the next.
Some of the new/updated widgets, and the quick actions in Live Spots
#QRV v1.15 coming soon for iOS. I'm doing final testing today, then I'll submit to the App Store.
Key features:
- Lots of new/improved widgets (cues taken from Apple Watch)
- Long press menus in Live Spots to take action on a DXCC
- Updated filtering UIs for consistency

Nice! Where did you make the grid? I’ve been working on my own as well (and you’re right — even a 1° misalignment with the yagi seems to add noise)
The cyclops shepherd! (Yes I played too much Hades 2). But the first two are definites
Prometheus, Homer, Polyphemus
Too busy? Too much?
Working to bring some of the Apple Watch love back to iPhone. Gotta add some more solar indicators though — too much empty space! #QRV #iOSDev
Yes! “I really need to refactor this code but it works” becomes “hey can you abstract all of the shared components into a single file and refactor all of the views to use it?”

But Kagi is legit awesome. And I think it uses the Google database on the backend, reinforcing that Google’s crappiness is a product choice
For the first time in my life, I opened Zoom and it didn't need to update. We used to be a society...
A few have suggested that some aspects of this mission--joy, international teamwork, diversity--are being played up to stick it to the hateful attitude of the administration. But I don't think it's that. I think it's just that those things are essential to and inseparable from a mission like this.
Alright fix deployed -- let's monitor those Grafana stats!
So in adding some extra features to my backend for #QRV, I thought that I increased p99 latency significantly. Turns out the issue has always been there, and I just didn't notice it. Working on optimizing some SQL queries now.
A fan! Thanks so much for the support. It’s really been a labor of love.
To those still complaining about Artemis 2:
We spend 100× more on killing people for oil profits, but yeah, NASA’s the problem. 🤦🏽♀️
NASA: $25B
Defense: $901B
That’s 36 NASAs.

Nice. I got the X6200 for POTA stuff. I still can't decide if it was worth the extra money over the X6100, especially since the 6100 has robust custom firmware.
