#QRV 1.14.1 is out with a bunch of speed improvements. I’ll release some more 1.14.x updates to tidy things up from the last few feature additions.

A small change to notifications on #QRV. Instead of showing raw spot counts, it will now show "stations heard." In short: spot counts wouldn't align with the app since users would have different filters in-app (mode, time window, etc.). This helps alleviate that disconnect. #iOSDev #AmateurRadio

Big update coming for #QRV! I'll be doing a final round of testing this weekend but you can expect the following:
- Callsign alerts (mimicking DXCC and DXP alerts)
- Full iCloud sync of your settings and favorite callsigns
- Alerts now sync between your devices

Coming soon to #QRV

If you have a logbook connected (QRZ or Wavelog), you can have your alerts be “logbook aware.” The app will automatically deselect bands as you get QSOs or QSLs for that entity.

All optional, of course!

That wasn't too hard #QRV
Will be nice for folks setting up a second device or getting a new phone without restoring.

Because I can’t leave well enough alone, I have to things I’d like to tackle for #QRV

Easy: automatically prune alerts when a QSO or QSL is found in your logbook (optional for the user)

Hard: can I get preferences and alerts syncing over iCloud between Mac and iOS?

Alright! Mac 1.4 and iOS 1.13 are submitted to the App Store for review. This includes full localization for German and Spanish, as well as lots of little bug fixes and UI tweaks. I'm really nervous for this one, and I'm sure there will be some language corrections needed. #QRV #AmateurRadio #iOSDev

Well here's an embarrassing one: I had a typo in my APNS_BUNDLE_ID on the #QRV notification service. The end result: Mac users haven't been getting notifications for a while. Thankfully it's just a server-side fix. Tested in staging, now deploying to prod. #AmateurRadio #iOSDev

Do I have any Spanish- or German-speaking users of #QRV? I'm planning to ship an update with translations, but they are machine translations, so I am sure that there will be some awkwardness. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio

I found some errors in the new Spain band plan, but I have a fix and plan to submit it today with a few other bits and bobs. Behind the scenes, I decided to consolidate all of my UI variables (padding, corner radii, capacities, etc.) into a single file with lots of enums. #QRV #amateurradio #iOSDev

CRITICAL BUG FIX FOR #QRV INCOMING

I found an issue with my server logic that might specifically miss spots of 3Y0K / Bouvet Island. What are the odds? If folks on-air behavior is anything to go by, I do NOT want to be on the receiving end of angry hams missing their rare QSL.

And it’s out on iOS! #QRV 1.11 now fetches POTA spots from their official API. You can filter, and any spots which are cross-referenced from PSK or RBN will appear in the standards spots tab as well. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio

I'm struggling with UX while adding POTA spots. Basically, #QRV has always been "who can I work right now?" But with POTA, I am potentially sharing spots that you can't reach.

I want to keep the Live Spots tab true to that original mission, so I'm thinking of adding a new tab "Activity."

Working on some new features for #QRV this weekend. It's a fun challenge trying to add extra functionality without cluttering things up.

The UI isn't finalized, but the folks running POTA.app made a phenomenal API.

It looks like the next #QRV update was approved by Apple! This one adds Reverse Beacon Network support. Now you can filter spots by FT8, FT4, CW, and RTTY. Each one fetches unique spots to avoid FT8 overpowering everything else.

Available on Mac and iOS!

I’d love to get some info on how hams use RBN for their CW operations. I’m going to add it into #QRV, but I not sure if my current Live Spots implementation is the right place for it. #amateurradio #hamradio

Some progress of the Wavelog integration:

Connect it to your #Wavelog logbook using an API key, and #QRV will download your full ADIF. Each time you open the app, it will update with your latest entries. This also allows me to use fuzzy searching and include modified callsigns with a / in them.

US users of #QRV, I have an iOS update pending with that includes the new 60m band plan changes, but they're taking their time :)

The Mac version already has the new band plan.

It’s approved! Get the new macOS-native #QRV on the App Store. It shared your premium with iOS, so no need to pay again.

I’m most proud of the ⌘K shortcuts. Try using it to search DXCC, prefixes, callsigns, and freqs. You can also type / to quick navigate around the app.

#QRV v1.8.1 is out with a few bug fixes. I’m still chasing down a very rare one related to iPads and rotation.

I have also:
* added deduplication to spots (and indicate where we have both ends of the QSO)
* UI adjustments for the widget when in tinted or clear mode

This is QRV's Battery Capacity and Usage calculator. The left sidebar shows the app's navigation structure across Lookup, Conditions, Calculators, Bands, and General sections, with "Battery Capacity and Us…" currently selected.

The main content area has two columns. On the left, **Battery Specs** lets the user select chemistry (LiFePO4, LiPo, or Lead Acid via a segmented picker — LiFePO4 is selected), set rated capacity (20 Ah), and see usable capacity (20.0 Ah, ~100%). Below that, **Load** offers an Amps/Watts input mode toggle (Amps selected), TX Draw (22 A), Duty Cycle (SSB ~20% via a dropdown), and RX Draw (0.5 A).

On the right, **Results** shows estimated runtime of 4.2 hours in large orange text, a green capacity-vs-draw progress bar (20.0 Ah vs 4.8 A draw), average draw of 4.80 A / 66.2 W, and solar panel wattage needed to sustain operation (79 W optimistic, 132 W realistic).

Below the results is a **Chemistry Reference** section with expandable cards for each battery type. LiFePO4 is shown at ~100% usable capacity with a description highlighting full voltage until near-empty, 12.8V nominal, 10V cutoff, and a bold warning about requiring a specific charger. LiPo (~80%) notes energy density, balance charging, and storage voltage. Lead Acid (~50%) describes tolerance of abuse but warns against deep discharge.

The footer reads "Battery Capacity and Usage" and the top-right corner shows the grid square FN21XU and current UTC time.

It's a weird problem to have, but I'm struggling to find a use for all of the extra space on macOS! #QRV #iOSDev

I'm slowly finding a cohesive visual style for the Mac version of #QRV that is centered on macOS UI guidelines, but still familiar to users of the iOS app.

Well D.O. screwed up again and put me into a cluster with borked disk I/O. I'll probably move to a new host at some point, but I need to fix this issue ASAP. #QRV

No power, but I have my ham radio and WiFi, so I guess I'll keep working on #QRV. The native Mac port is coming along quite nicely with most of the functionality ported over.

I still need to implement free/premium gating and notifications.

My on-server logic for band activity notification sensitivity (low/medium/high) were inverted. If you selected high sensitivity (i.e. alert me when there's even a small amount of activity), I was doing the opposite. #QRV
