A challenge to love tough, not practice tough love, when it comes to closing #SafeConsumption sites in #ldnont - lfpress.com/opinion/colu...

An astronaut floats alone above Earth during a spacewalk, surrounded by the blackness of space, with the blue curve of the planet visible below.
This iconic 1984 photo is often called one of the most terrifying space images ever.
During STS-41-B on Space Shuttle Challenger, astronaut Bruce McCandless II became the first person to perform an untethered spacewalk.

This to me, is what #ChildHonouring looks like. Politicians that sit with kids, sing with them, & engage them, even though they can’t vote, send a clear signal that they are interested in leading the whole population.
Real leaders spend time with children & build policies for them. If your politicians don’t, then you should vote them out. #cdnpoli
Banning algorithmic pricing ought to be a no-brainer call for any government: people don’t like to be ripped off, surveilled, or treated differently from their peers.
Algorithm pricing does all three of those things.

These Machines Fight Traffic.
Walked by this beauty last night - pretty awesome to see these messages out in the world.
Of all the provinces I have lived, Quebec has the broadest political spectrum, which is incredibly reassuring & healthy. #cdnpoli
We need to do a much better job at teaching this.
We needed to make big changes yesterday. Today, is the next best option. We know the solution. Consume less, drive small (better yet, not at all), & commit to a sustainable lifestyle. #ClimateCrisis
Eliminating libraries in prisons is a disaster, completely shortsighted. Libraries are a lifeline for incarcerated people who want to learn and grow, and have few other options.
I love our universe. #ArtemisII reminded me how amazing it is… & how much public support for science matters.
Great news that #Hungary has voted for change. Let’s not forget that his rule was supported by leaders that are still readily accepted like #cdnpoli Stephen Harper. macleans.ca/politics/ott...
I sincerely hope by 2033, we have ended the cult of personality politics that has made #cdnpoli so toxic & masculine. Carney is okay (but overblown) & Wab Kinew is great, but we have so many people in Canada with real vision. Let’s create a politics where there are more than just a handful of voices
#ArtemisII isn’t the first time #swont went to the moon. This week Matt & I talked about our region’s deep connections to lunar exploration. #HiddenHistory - www.cbc.ca/listen/live-... #cdnhist #nasa
They are back! What a journey. Congratulations to the crew of #ArtemisII
Automobiles are burdens that most households feel acutely. No group has made the pain of automobile ownership felt more directly than manufacturers, who almost universally chose burdensome oversized models over efficient smaller vehicles that have now become too expensive for many ppl.
Iranians are like us. they all need and deserve love. want the best for their children. 🙏🏻
Moon in between the camera and the Earth, dark side visible.
Wow.
“NASA's EPIC camera aboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite captured this unique view of the Moon as it moved in front of the sunlit side of Earth. This view shows the fully illuminated ‘dark side’ of the moon never visible from Earth.” www.planetary.org/space-images...
There are lots of arguments about why we need to integrate AI into education. Few of them have to do with the core skills that we still actually need students to know: math, reading, & writing. I teach young adults. We can move onto AI once we have some foundations. AI shouldn’t be priority.
We’re planning a coast-to-coast road trip again this summer & this image encapsulates exactly how I am beginning to feel.
I don’t disagree with you there. The broader point here is whether we just throw our hands up or figure out a way to make it work. I really only see closures and consolidation rather than any universities identifying potential key markets. It needs a system-wide approach.
First, at least in Ontario, universities are part of a system, both at the policy level (government) & lobbying level (COU, OCUFA, & OUSA). In my experience the case is often made at the local - university- level, but the market pressures (no one is interested) trumps making these arguments public.
In my assessment, the value in humanities has mostly declined based on perception; in #ontario grad outcomes bet/w STEM & Humanities are about the same. Where isn’t the same is how pundits talk about them. (And I know Ontario is an outlier)
It isn’t really an educational system that you are promoting then, is it? Essentially the vision here is one where everyone follows a single market & behaves the same; instead of recognizing diverse market places. Pitch humanities & my bet is enrolments go up. Can you show where this has been tried?
It depends on the efforts made to promote the programs. There are often real asymmetries in university branding & program promotion. Additionally, there seems to be no clear plan for where the humanities fit. What are the consequences if all universities take this path? #onpoli #cdnpse
I would have some sympathy for ppl complaining about gas prices, if most of them had not chosen pick up trucks & #SUVs to move them about. You made THE CHOICE to burn your money at a time when it was well known driving smaller, fuel efficient vehicles (or cycling & taking transit) is necessary.
Yes, this is getting bad, bad. The tendency to move away from local decision making and the core tenants of #democracy in #onpoli is alarming. We need greater movement beyond our broken system of political parties, to move the dial on this.
It is still pretty awesome!
I have to wait a day to post each week’s #HiddenHistory. For the Transgender Day of Visibility (yesterday) we talked about transhistory in #swont, especially the Homophile Association of #ldnont (HALO). You can listen here: www.cbc.ca/listen/live-...
Picture of the day today is from Cheryl McKenzie of grandmother moon over the Manitoba Interlake region.
And wishing safe travels to the crew of Artemis II after their successful launch as they travel to this beautiful space rock for their 10-day voyage!
