Just finished 'Operation Bounce House' (by Matt Dinniman)... That ending! π
Just did our first pass shoveling the drive and sidewalks. It was probably 6 inches already... βοΈ #neweangland #snowstorm
Screenshot of my weather app. It's currently 7 degree fahrenheit, but feels like -9. There is a winter storm warning beginning tomorrow with expected snow accumulations between 13 and 19 inches and high winds...
Time to go to work, I guess... (I work mostly outside π₯Ά)
Portrait of a Morning Coffee
Two Adirondack chairs covered in about 6-8 inches of fresh snow.
I don't think I'm going to be using the backyard chairs today...
In my haste to condense everything, I neglected 'Kingdoms of Death' (Sun Eater #4 by Christopher Ruocchio) from my account. Oops!
Least favorite was Wicked. Most favorite was Greenbone Saga. Special 'just plain fun' points go to DCC, Mark of the Fool, and HWFWM. 12 rereads out of a total 43 books.
-He Who Fights With Monsters #11-12 (Shirtaloon)
-The Poppy War #1-3 (R.F. Kuang)
-The Devils (Joe Abercrombie)
-Children of Time (Adrian Tchaikovsky)
-Uprooted (Noami Novik)
-The Sword of Kaigen (M.L. Wang)
-Greenbone Saga #1-3 (Fonda Lee)
-Heirarchy #1-2 (James Islington)
-Stormlight #4-5, Mistborn #1-6 + Secret History, Isles of the Emberdark (Brandon Sanderson)
-Faithfull and Fallen #1-3, Bloodsworn #1-3 (John Gwynne)
-Dungeon Crawler Carl #6-7 (Matt Dinniman)
-Mark of the Fool #1-9 (J.M. Clarke)
-Wicked (Gregory Maguire)
Due to the shortened format of posting on Bluesky, I am condensing how I list the books I read/listened to during 2025. Rather than list every book individually, I'm grouping them by series and author. Thus, here is the condensed version of the books I consumed during the last year: π
Rereading Gardens of the Moon (Malazan #1, by Steven Erikson). π
Just finished the π Greenbone Saga by Fonda Lee (Jade City, Jade War, and Jade Legacy). Loved it, especially Legacy. The first time jump in Legacy took me by surprise, but once I understood and got used to it, I really like the way it was handled.
Ready for season 2! #Fallout
A hooded figure with a staff sits in front of a giant bowl of candy. Beside him, a smoky cauldron and colorfully lit tombstones are visible in front of a house with an orange light above the door.
Happy Halloween π
The Sword of Kaigen (π by ML Wang) turned out to be quite different from what I expected, but I really did enjoy it!
(continued...) for one is meant to open, and the other to keep closed. Yet, upon closer examination he might see that without one, the other becomes useless. The wise man then sees that both lock and key were created for the same purpose."
- The Well of Ascension (Brandon Sanderson) #quotes π
"At first glance, the key and the lock it fits may seem very different," Sazed said. "Different in shape, different in function, different in design. The man who looks at them without knowledge of their true nature might think them opposites, (cont...) #mistborn #quotes π
Just finished my reread of Mistborn 1. It had been a while, and was fun to read remembering certain secrets that are revealed later and seeing how they are foreshadowed. π
Just finished Isles of the Emberdark and considering what I want to read next... First I figured, 'Let's do Mistborn Era Two!' Then I changed my mind to, 'Why not start at the beginning with Era One?'
So, here we go! π
I mostly agree, but also believe he is talking about film music as a whole. I don't think he truly believes there are absolutely no written-for-film works that are not great music, by themselves.
About the article, what he's really saying is that film music, in general, isn't comparable to the great classical-style music. It is rushed and relies on the storytelling of the associated picture to really have meaning. The music, by itself, has less value.
Just saw the beginning of a headline: "John Williams, the legendary composer behind Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and the original Superman theme"
I opened to finish the sentence: "admits he 'never liked film music very much.'"
He's 93 years old! Don't make me think he died by clipping the end short!
A business that wants to succeed should make it as easy as possible for the potential customer. Sure, use your Instagram for updates and sharing products, but please also have an actual website, or share to a public platform like Bluesky, as well. It's easy to do nowadays.
I never thought about it before I left Instagram / Facebook, but it really is inconvenient when a business only has their information viewable after you log in to your account first. It's great business for Meta, and even though it's free, it may as well be a paywall for someone like me.
Chicken and vegetables cook in an open pot hanging over a wood campfire.
A creamy sauce has been added to the chicken and veggie mix. Then 3 large biscuits sit on top.
The finished dish is half eaten on a blue plate. Part of the cooked biscuit is visible with the delicious sauce, chicken, and vegetables.
Went camping and did some campfire Dutch oven cooking the other day. Made a variation on what my family calls 'Chicken Cheese Biscuit' for the first time and it turned out great! #cooking #campfire #dutchoven

A close-up of handwoven fabric still on the loom. The left side shows the remaining warp threads with hand stitched knots against the finished fabric to the right. The coloring is variegated with yellow, pale blue, green, and almost black.
Hemstitching before taking this latest weave off the loom. π§Ά #fiberarts #rigidheddle #handdyedyarn
Final thoughts: Don't bother with it. Instead, hope that they make a novelisation of the musical, because that plot is much better, in my opinion.
I couldn't have physically read this book. Only in audiobook format was it tolerable. At 2x speed...
Some of the philosophical discussion was interesting, and I thought the nanny in her senility at the end was funny. All in all, it made up for some of the beginning, but not enough. (cont...)
