Happy Birthday to "The Godfather of Punk", born on this day, 1947 in Muskegon, MI. Musician, singer, songwriter, actor, punk legend and one of the most influential figures in rock history.
The Safir GT40 Classic is a hollowbody electric guitar. It's got a double-cutaway body, and the end has been carved to look like the front of a Ford GT40 race car, complete with bulging fenders, headlight cutouts, and even a couple small NACA ducts. Instead of having F-holes, It's got a large rectangular air intake that houses the tailpiece. It's got two humbuckers, and they're controlled by a volume knob, a tone knob, and a 3-way switch. This one is painted in the classic blue and orange Gulf livery.

The Tom Holmes Company (THC) was mainly known for making their own pickups, but they also made guitars. The guitar in the picture is a custom one-off, and it looks like it was designed after smoking too much Tom Holmes Company, if you get my drift. The top of the body is one big curve. The end comes to an offset point, and the bottom of the body looks fairly normal, with a leg rest and a cutaway. There's a custom-made three-coil humbucker in the bridge position, and it's controlled by three switches that handle what coil gets output, series/parallel, and coil tap. I have no idea how it works, and there isn't a good writeup about it anywhere. I do know that the person that the guitar was built for used a volume pedal with the guitar instead of having a built-in volume knob. He also had Holmes build the neck so that it would feel like his 1957 Les Paul Junior, but with 27 frets. The 3/3 split headstock has THC inlaid on it, which is a nice touch.

The Framus Idolmaker is a solidbody electric guitar with a reverse offset body (that is, the body leans to the left instead of the right, so the bottom cutaway horn is longer than the top one). This is a top-of-the-line Masterbuilt model, and it's got a maple cap over a mahogany body. The cap is painted blue and black, making it look like granite. Also, the areas where the knobs and switch go are uncapped, giving a nice contrast between the black-painted body and the cap. Speaking of the controls, this guitar has two humbuckers, and they're controlled by a volume knob, a tone knob, and a 3-way switch. The 3/3 split headstock has the same maple cap as the body.
Framus Idolmaker Masterbuilt
Graceland. When it came out, in 1986, it was quite a surprise, even considered "risky" and "experimental" by some people. Simon flirted with African-influenced music but the result was extremely successful; joyous and uplifting. Still a great listen after all these years.
