Pow!

Took a bit of a gamble today with a jaunt up to Upper Teesdale, not expecting too much if truth be told. But even a handful of these was enough to make the journey worthwhile.

Lovely place to spend time! Well done your mum! There was much concern about the flora when the reservoir was built.

The brother had an errand in Sunlun today and he brought a pink slice back for me. Haven’t had one since I worked in Southwick in the 1990s 😋

Dane's Dyke: Extremely well preserved, running from the coast north of Flamborough Head south for a distance of two and a half miles, Danes' Dyke remains a significant boundary in the modern landscape. The linear bank and ditch system encloses an area of approximately five square miles of headland.

Rescued Durham village diaries inspire film A young villager’s diaries saved from a skip have been turned into a film of the writer’s life. Tony Henderson reports ahead of a series of screenings

Lovely write up from Tony Henderson about 'Lost & Found - The McLaren Diaries of Thorpe Thewles', a film we produced with Thorpe Thewles History Group. The response has been overwhelming. 🤩

Just looked it up. It’s the Ferryhill Philosophers by Michael Chaplin (son of Sid Chaplin) Both talented writers and I enjoy reading their work. I copy this into my diary every year to remind me that my life choices are enough!

We took off from all responsibilities yesterday and headed to Upper Teesdale. A picnic, no phone signal and a walk along Widdybank Fell 😎 I’ve never, ever walked up there without a coat on…..it was 20C yesterday! Saw a Ring Ouzel, a Wheatear and lots of skylarks. A noisy wren told us to naff off 😂🥰

Public warned to stay off Seaton Carew bird nesting ground Little terns are making their way from Gambia to Seaton Carew, where they will lay their eggs.

Seasonal fencing now back up to protect the Little Tern colony on Seaton Carew beach. This has been a highly successful scheme which involves cordoning off a small proportion of one of the North-east most popular beaches during the breeding season.

A walk around Bishop Middleham today. My childhood stomping ground. I grew up in these fields. Galloped ponies, fell off sledges, drove tractors, ate bait, searched for wildflowers, watched wildlife, fed sheep in the snow, picked potatoes, stacked straw bales…..so many memories ☺️

Been doing some embroidery based on the latest Forbes list of Billionaires which came out on 10 March 2026. Of course it is an underestimate. They don’t, for example include royalty or dictators! (Not sure which category Trump is in.)

Spot on! I don’t like the “othering” of people. Human beings need to look after each other rather than create division 🤗

Cut this picture out and keep it in your pocket. The next time someone says, "We should look after our own first - charity begins at home," take the photo out and say, "I agree. And to remind me, I carry a picture of home with me at all times."
