More training and body cameras or other reforms have not and will not fix our problem of violent, racist, overzealous policing. Busting the police unions and taking away funding, power and discretion from cops will.

Something I've been thinking about but haven't researched to flesh out is the statement Spokane's mayor posted on the recent anniversary of the police murder of Otto Zehm. Almost all the "reforms" listed in this statement almost come down to more money for cops.
You can say that Booker is complicit without implying that he is a 🦝. But every day, I keep seeing that implied. If you're not Black, that's not your lane.
You can say that Harris is complicit without lying about her credentials or her experience.
Black people actually listen to what you say.
This is bad and we should oppose it.
1) Local cops are already doing this with body cameras.
2) Body cameras are one of the main demands Democrats are making in order to agree to fund DHS.
3) This is how reform efforts turn into more money and resources for law enforcement and mass surveillance
jfc, humans are not innately anything, you turds
we choose, every day we choose
what you choose does not determine what everyone else values or is capable of
an individually cruel human does not taint the species' internal nature in reverse anymore than a kind act redeems all sins and cruelty
Thanks!
I want to say Icheb from voyager but I'm not sure about the black stripe bits, let alone the episode

Thank you to everyone making Star Trek weed memes. They are all beautiful and precious
Doctor Beverly "Blazin' Bev" Crusher of Star Trek: The Next Generation, wearing her blue lab coat, looking really stoned with red eyes and a joint hanging from her mouth, with multicolor text in TNG title font that reads: I came here to get high and radicalize liberals, and I'm actually pretty high right now. #Curated
City being the city of Spokane and SPD being spokane police for clarity. I focus sp much on trying to interact with Spokane people on here that I forget this isn't a local website sometimes
If you're against ICE and CBP wearing smart glasses but think body cameras are a legitimate reform, read this article! Axon is the same company the city is considering authorizing SPD to buy more surveillance drones from later today

Hey guys check this out
Top left: Wesley Crusher stands in the Enterprise transporter room greeting the newly arrived Ensign Mendon. Wesley says, "Mendon, what is that gas that Benzites need to breathe?" Top right: Ensign Mendon, with his breathing device attached to his chest, replies, "I'll tell you a secret: It's actually cannabis vapor." Bottom left: Mendon continues, "when we joined the federation, we told them we 'needed' it for 'medical purposes'." Bottom right: Wesley smiles and says, "I bet you'd get along with my mom! She knows where to find all the best cannabis...you know... because she's chief medical officer."
Yeah I've been trying to do some reading on them and it's making me hate that the term AI has become basically meaningless! I can't really tell what they're capabilities are
The one thing I still hope that we can learn from the current moment is that ICE and CBP learned all their authoritarian, abusive methods from local police and sheriffs. We all see how this is playing out when it's applied to the population at large. It's never been ok at the local level either
Democrats will win and then fund the police again, learning nothing, I fear.
We’ll be blunt: It’s time to end the War on Drugs.
No one should face incarceration, fines, or a criminal record for possessing drugs for personal use. People should be met with dignity, care and support. Period.
This is on top of a 726k dollar grant the county sheriff received for world cup related costs. These events are always used to boost the surveillance state.
Sure, they'll use them for world cup surveillance for a week or so, then they will be used to spy on black and brown people and surveil anti ICE and no kings protests, etc for the rest of their operational lifetime.
If you're pushing more surveillance tech for police (drones, alpr cameras, bodycams etc) as a public safety solution, you're pushing propaganda whether you know it or not. Spokane city council is set to approve the purchase of four new surveillance drones by SPD for world cup security.
Today has mostly been listening to poetry and cleaning and listening to music and playing soccer with the kiddo in the backyard. 10/10 strong reccomend. Now to make dinner
This is really vital, especially now, on a personal and community level.
We're told so much oppression is inevitable, that the only options we have are slight variations of servility, that this dying empire is just "the way it is."
No.
Defiant refusal is a lot more powerful than we've been told.

Soft Discipline Most days, I'm dumbstruck by what humanity is capable of: every miracle and massacre. For every bullet, a redwood. For every salted grief, a new joy is born. It is a soft discipline, trying to love this world— even when it breaks your heart. Even when it breaks. ~Kelly Grace Thomas
