Depending on the language you wanna learn, I like Lingvist at the moment. I’m using it for French. Has a widget I keep on my phone screen to remind me to do my daily words

*sid voice* it came! It finally came!

Had to take off the library protective cover but it’s in solid shape! Now I just have to decide what highlighter color I wanna use. @michaelerard.bsky.social suggestions for color?

The first 3 letters of 'Sweden' and 'Denmark' spell out 'Sweden.'

The remaining letters spell out 'Denmark.'

Imma be so for real: going viral on YouTube has ~wrecked my Spanish habits and the adjustment period to establish new habits is taking longer than I’d prefer

-confessions of a perfectionist productivity nerd

(No I am not complaining about going viral 😆)

Wait - I'm learning Spanish and swear like a sailor too! Drop the podcast episode! 😀 I've seen a few TikToks teaching swear words but I want variety!

Also, no, I'm never surprised at other languages swearing more than in typical American English lol idk why tho 🤔

I suppose the devs wanting to switch the fun > efficacy formula doesn't take priority over the business view of "the more people stay, the more money we make." But hasn't anyone equalized the formula yet?

Assuming the general purpose of gamifying it is to teach you in a fun but effective way, I have yet to find a language app that does both. Not sure why that is. It’s not as if it’s impossible to make learning fun and effective at the same time 🧐 but all these gamified language apps suck at it

I am SO enjoying it so far. Great writing. Interesting stuff 👀

Oh gotcha! Bc where my mind first went was the trend of “polyglots” shouting from the rooftops that they learned x language in 72 hours, in a style that sounds like a headline from the Onion and it warps our perceptions of how long it takes to ACTUALLY learn a language

I wonder if that’s the non-US title? 🤔

I switched to @thestorygraph.com a year or two ago and never. looked. back. IMHO it is infinitely better than Goodreads. Cleaner. Less buggy. Cool data tracking. Not owned by Amazon. Never regretted changing over and also StoryGraph makes it easy to migrate from Goodreads so you don’t lose anything

I’m not 100% sure I know what you mean. Could you elaborate? 🧐

SMALL 👏🏻 STEPS 👏🏻

Love the power of small steps! Personally, I drink probably 2 cups flavored with a packet, 1-2 regular water, and maybe another 1.5 in the form of soda. So like… probably 5ish on average.

I don’t think that “8 cups of water a day” should be taken as gospel anyway 🤷‍♀️

Can a linguist help with this: what is going on with the grammar?

1) "One of the things I do best is sing."
2) "All I want for Christmas is you."

WHY can a verb come after "is" in 1 but not 2? Is it because of the "do" in 1? One of my students pointed this out and I'm bamboozled.

#2024review:
- started a language learning channel
- started a decentish consistent Spanish habit
- did some amazing work with my English teaching content creation
- made healthy choices

I’m actually psyched for 2025. I’ve got goals and I’m ready to tackle them 💪🏻

I got about halfway through Khan’s book before my library loan ran out. Very interesting! I’ve put another hold on it so I can finish it but it’s pretty popular (understandably so) so it’ll be a minute before I get it back to finish it 😆 it’s fascinating what he’s done with Khanmigo
