Radical right parties in Europe have not moderated. Their positions and rhetoric have entered the mainstream. They have become normalized and legitimized. Unless we understand this, we have little chance of countering their success.
With the official launch of the Vienna Doctoral College on Digital #Humanism on 19 Nov., the City of Vienna has demonstrated being the capital of #DigitalHumanism. 👏

The first year of PhD is rather challenging, but it is moments like this that you feel the most appreciative of the work you do and imagine the impact that you can have. In that sense, I am thrilled to be a part of the first cohort (or the Second Vienna Circle, as we call it :) ).

The expansion of voting rights beyond territory and citizenship marks a major democratic development of the last fifty years. Migrant suffrage has been mostly studied from a state-centric perspective. But the rights that migrants hold emerge from specific combinations of the country of residence and the country of citizenship. From this migrant-centric perspective, what is the diagnosis of the spread and status of global migrant suffrage? We present franchise constellations as a migrant-centric framework for studying voting rights. Drawing on the most comprehensive dataset on migrant electoral rights, combined with novel data on nationality-specific restrictions, we compute almost 1.3 million dyad-year observations based on 172 countries between 1960 and 2020. Using migrant stock data, we find that at least 74 million migrants remained completely disenfranchised in 2020. Bilateral and multilateral efforts emerge as a fruitful path for addressing global migrant disenfranchisement.

That speech fuelled decades of racism and division. Echoing it today is a disgrace. It adds to anti-migrant rhetoric that puts lives at risk.

A very "interesting" cover photo. You can see that many people in Turkish social media being very upset for this, for many righteous reasons, particularly for its orientalist tone and not depicting the true nature of the events.
During my bachelor's studies, we examined the Gezi protests as a case study on social movements, and I believe the events of March 19th will have an even greater impact—both for the future and for the study of social movements.
