One year ago this afternoon, we walked into a local convenience store to grab drinks and came out with an unexpected item.

Happy Gotcha Day, Calcifer. You're the best little meatball in the world.

Teenager started karate lessons tonight. Awkward and hilarious. I love that kid so much.

Quote from Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables, which reads: "Those are mournful days; for there is always a certain amount of right even in this mania, there is suicide in this duel, and these words, intended to be insults, such as beggars, canaille, ochlocracy, and populace, prove, alas! rather the fault of those who reign than the fault of those who suffer; rather the fault of the privileged than the fault of the disinherited. For our part, we never pronounce these words without grief and respect, for when philosophy probes the facts with which they correspond it often finds such grandeur by the side of misery."

I always get so nervous when I see new reviews, and it always surprises me when they're like this one. There's a certain level of euphoria that comes with the "hey, I might actually be okay at this" realization.

Oh, how I wish this was still fiction.

Image of a paper-wrapped copy of The Backwards Knight sitting on a faded, murky wooden surface. Below is a black text box with white text that reads:

“What do you think you are doing, ser?” Though the words were quiet, they weren’t timid. Spoken carefully, as to not draw attention. Orn glimpsed a mud-caked face with vivid blue eyes staring at him from the bushes.

“No sers here, friend.” Orn grunted, working to free his foot from the snare. The muck coating the rope botched his attempts.

“No friends here. Ser.” The bush rustled, and Orn paused, waiting for an attack from whomever lurked in the darkness.

“Not yet.” When the noises faltered, Orn resumed picking at the knot and leather, loosening the length of it enough that he could wriggle his foot out. Once that was done, he scrubbed a hand over his face to scrape away what mud remained. Then, with a violent shake of his hand, he sent globs of mud flying in all directions.

“You aren’t like them,” the hidden man remarked.

We're closing in, a week and a half left until COVER REVEAL and PREORDERS go live for The Backwards Knight!

The hype is palpable, I can feel my heart running laps in my chest. I can see for *years* and can say: you are not ready for this, but I'll let you have it anyway.

Almost always, yes. Definitely more originality in the indie market than mass market.

Lingua Timore: 13 Terrifying Tales Amazon.com: Lingua Timore: 13 Terrifying Tales eBook : Roddey, Susan H.: Kindle Store

Ingram is being precious today.

Finally managed, after several tiny temper tantrums, to get the new version Lingua Timore uploaded. Now we get to wait 5-7 business days. Oh, the joys of indie publishing.

Weirdly, the 'zon made the ebook easy this time. #BookSky www.amazon.com/dp/B0FCTD6JZG/

Woke up "meh" this morning. Feels a little disingenuous to promote books when the world is on fire and every day we slip more and more into a dystopian hellscape.

I know, I know... art is what gives people escape. But it's hard to enjoy that escape when people I love are under fire.

I lost half a novel once. It was on a flash drive that most likely ended up flushed down a toilet (very long story). Ended up rewriting what was lost using notes and handwritten scraps and honestly, it turned out so much better than the original version.

Me too! I NEED the rest of this story. A friend recommended this one to me and I just happened to see it on a Booktok recommended shelf in our local bookstore in the same week. Soooo glad I bought it.

I definitely starts slow. I picked it up and put it down twice, then finally made myself read the first 60 pages. Just as I was ready to give up for good, it got REALLY good. I'm halfway through #2 now.

I'm convinced there are drugs cooked into the pages of this book. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN and now I'm mad because #2 doesn't come out until April.

Set up a StoryGraph account (SilverKitsune for inquiring minds) and I've been manually adding my books (hello, masochist!). Thus far I've added just over 200 books.

My reading habits are...interesting. Seeing it spelled out, I'm a little worried about me. #Booksky

Finally getting back into the habit of writing every day, yet I still find myself wishing for the installation of a USB port into my brain. It would be so much easier to make books actually book if I could just dump it all out like puzzle pieces THEN sort through it.
