Direct ionic stress sensing and mitigation by the transcription factor NFAT5 Intracellular ionic strength is sensed and regulated by a prion-like domain in a transcription factor.

Ever wondered how mammalian cells sense osmotic stress? There's gotta be a signaling pathway, right?

We propose a *one-component system*: NFAT5, the transcription factor that executes the osmoprotective response, is also the stress sensor!

It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.

Quick poll: what year is the below abstract from?

„Our results indicate that protein sequences contain not only a folding code, but also a previously unrecognized code governing their distribution to diverse subcellular compartments.“

Dunno what they have planned, but a devastated NIH will destroy universities and academic science (on the heels of significant COVID impacts) but will also destroy biotech and cede US leadership in this sector to China and elsewhere very very quickly.

iAPEX: Improved APEX-based proximity labeling for subcellular proteomics using an enzymatic reaction cascade Ascorbate peroxidase (APEX) is a versatile labeling enzyme used for live-cell proteomics at high spatial and temporal resolution. However, toxicity of its substrate hydrogen peroxide and background la...

Proud to share our work spear-headed by PhD student Tommy Sroka with major contributions by #xenopus expert Kerstin Feistel.

Our iAPEX #ProximityLabeling method for #MassSpec based subcellular #proteomics works by locally generating H2O2 using a D-amino acid oxidase that activates APEX2 in situ.

True! Plus it provides an interesting new rationale to drug IDRs “across the stereochemical trees of life”

Found some old drawings I had to do for my undergrad in Molecular & Cellular Biology. @dadrummond.bsky.social may particularly appreciate this one, although I’m not nearly the artist he is.

Lol, now we know your stance on the great olive oil rivalry between Italy and Spain.
