once or twice a season, a manager should be able to throw a flaming sword onto the infield and declare THIS GAME IS CURSED

The report on the firing of Ohio State president Ted Carter described the woman he had an affair with thusly: "Notably, witnesses frequently used three adjectives to describe Vlachos: “persistent,” “unsophisticated,” and “weird.”
I feel like I know more about Ted now than I ever did before.
If you attend the White House Correspondents Dinner this year, you should be legally barred from using the term "journalist" to describe yourself from that point on.
It's cool that the NWSL is coming to Columbus, but last night the city voted to give a park that serves literally the poorest neighborhood in Columbus to the team's owners -- the odious Haslams -- as a practice facility. Shitty and unnecessary in every possible way.

The Columbine massacre was on this date in 1999. Instead of energizing our country to get gun violence under control, it kicked off a new normal. One of the best explanations ever of journalism's destructive impact on mass shootings came from Roger Ebert in his review of Gus Van Sant’s “Elephant.”
That’s right

A nighttime view of the General Electric sign in Schenectady, NY. The GE crest shines in blue and red, while the main "General Electric" wording underneath is lit by solid off-white bulbs.

The famous General Electric sign in Schenectady, NY is slated to be taken down starting today, and will be reassembled to more modern standards.
The sign, first erected in 1926 is 167 feet long, and contains just under 1,400 bulbs spread out on 10 foot tall letters.

Since 2015, Mike Clevinger is one of two players MLB probed under its domestic violence policy but didn't suspend. His ex-fiancée says MLB enabled the former star to keep harassing her, including this call where she says he threatened her.

Even if you've never gone to a quinceañera how in the hell not know how important they are? Amazing.
Pulido, a fifty-two-year-old Latin Grammy winner who’s appeared intermittently on Billboard charts since the mid-nineties, is running for Congress against the incumbent Republican Monica De La Cruz, who, in 2022, flipped Texas’s Fifteenth Congressional District, which had been held by Democrats for more than a century. After Pulido secured the Democratic nomination, in early March, De La Cruz posted a video saying that the election “isn’t about who you want performing at your niece’s quinceañera. It’s about who you trust with your family’s future.” Abel Prado, Pulido’s campaign manager, remembers thinking, Did she really say that? Which gringo consultant wrote that? Within days, Pulido announced online that he would stop by quinceañeras in his district and perform for his potential constituents; as of early April, the campaign had received more than three thousand invitations.
