This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

Spread the word to interested colleagues!
Not the news that some people want to be spreaded I think....ππ’π’π’

Bending back the biodiversity loss curve of sharks and rays. The loss of sharks and rays to date has involved serial depletion of the largest, most evolutionary and functionally distinct species, and the increasing prevalence of smaller-bodied species that have benefited from release from predation.

More than 200,000 Danish citizens have signed a petition to buy California as a response to Trumpβs attempt to take Greenland.
They say they will provide Californians with βrule of law, universal health care, fact-based politics, and a lifetime supply of Danish pastries.β
If Greenland is so important for the security of North America as proposed by everyone, the US can build a defense shield on Greenland with the permission of DK and GR. They also can build military bases and store weapons there (if both agree). The US don't need to possess Greenland.
NEW PAPER ALERT | Only One Percent of Important Shark and Ray Areas in the Western Indian Ocean Are Fully Protected From Fishing Pressure.

ICYMI:
Our new (in December) paper offers advice for early career scientists who want their research to help influence conservation and management policy. Lots of people say that they want to do this, but lack the policy training to do it meaningfully and usefully. Our paper can help!
