Writing is always a leap of faith. Good writing requires that you challenge yourself. Do things that you have never done before. And possibly fail. Write dangerously!

“Goddamn it, I knew I should've listened to my mother. I could've been a cosmetic surgeon, five hundred thousand a year, up to my neck in tits and ass.”

The thing about luck is the more scripts you have, the more queries you send, the more people you interact with, etc - the more chances you have.
Bin Filling: Most of the time I am writing one script and suddenly have ideas for other scripts.
When I have a deadline, there's brainstorming ideas... And raiding the dialogue and action and character bins. DROID GUNNER (9 days!) was mostly random funny lines on note cards. 5/5
Assignments are usually based on existing material or something that I pitched in the room - so the idea and characters and some of the scenes are already figured out and I just need to flesh it out, write the treatment by the deadline, and the script comes from that (plus their notes). 4/5
My reason for trying to write consistently every day is so that I know I can ramp up a little if I have a crazy deadline. Also I am used to working on a deadline instead of when I am in the mood. Before pro, 1 page a day (min) before work gave me 3 new scripts every year. And confidence.
3/?
Usually I take the deadline and figure out how many pages I need to write in a day, and add a quick rewrite. So anything that was rough gets fixed before my deadline... And they think I'm a genius. (I am not)
2/?
The pages a day on an assignment depends on the deadline, and I have had crazy ones. Last movie was 2 weeks - because they were trying to get the film made and delivered to the streamer in 5 months. That didn't happen, but my script was written in 2 weeks. 1/?
Two different things.
An assignment doesn't get an idea bin, because they want a finished script by a deadline, and I am scrambling to get it written.
If I come up with an idea for one of the future scripts (idea bins) I'll write it on a card (or whatever) and put it in the bin.
But I have deadline!

Trailer Tuesday: THE IPCRESS FILE (1965). Michael Caine is The Spy Who Does Paperwork in this great film. Great dialogue, great shots, great music: John Barry, great performances. One of my favorites.

There comes a point where I want to turn all of those ideas into a script - and I don't need to go searching for them or trying to remember something from a year ago. It's there. Waiting.
I haven't reread that tip, but I am guessing it's my idea bins. They fill whenever they fill. Some from the 80s are still a couple of notes (though usually those get dumped after a while). When I am writing one script I always get ideas for another - so those go in the bins.
Nobody.
Are they all action scripts with car chases and shoot outs and fist fights?
I guess I misunderstood...
