A very neat lab exercise! Having students sort through raked leaves to see what arthropods were lost to our tidying habits. I think this would work for high school too, with more instructor guidance (1/2) #teaching academic.oup.com/ae/article/7...

That's such a great question, and definitely worth looking into next! π

Ok, it *is* true that the idea of Daylight savings was invented by an entomologist that wanted more time to catch bugs, but I assure you few modern entomologists support it. nautil.us/the-19th-cen...
Apparently, y'all are really into bugs, @dragoncon.org! Fortunately, so are we! Had a great time with the "So, You Like Bugs" panel. See us tomorrow for the Insect Petting Zoo for hands-on science (11:30a) and Bugs and Superheroes (2:30p). See y'all there! πͺ²ππ¦π¦ΈπΌββοΈπ
I'm so fortunate to have been passed this opportunity from THE @bug-gwen.bsky.social! If you're around for DragonCon in a few weeks, come see me (and our insect zoo critters)! π·οΈπͺ°π¦πππͺ²
It is tricky, but if you resize it proportionally down to within the limits you have, it will work! I've been there. It's a doozy! You got this!
In the latest @pensoft.net guest blog post, Dr. Kelly Carruthers (@crazbuglady.bsky.social) β¬explains how students in Georgia's Science Olympiad entomology exam were given real insect specimens to engage with, rather than just images, to encourage hands-on learning.

Check out our new paper on the use of insect specimens for the Science Olympiad entomology exam! I worked with two awesome students who have been involved with Science Olympiad for a long time, and their input was so valuable! π¦πͺ²π¦π

Rebuilding an old course from scratch with help from materials of some other folks. This is a good recommendation. Can confirm! πππ
Hey, bug friends. Andrina Shufran's GoFundMe has reached 90% of the goal! EXCEPT: GFM doesn't give you any money unless you hit your goal. If you have any spare $, can you toss it their way? www.gofundme.com/f/help-andri...
The Bug Bites (undergrad entomology club) asked me to do a pinning workshop. Their best time was after 5:30p on a Friday. π« They had fun though. (And so did I) ππͺ²π
I oversee Entomology and Applied Biotech majors, so we've been touring different biotech focused companies in our area. Today, we visited Boehringer-Ingelheim in Athens, GA and learned a lot about what they do for parasitology research! Really cool stuff! π¦π¦ π§¬π€β€οΈ

Whaaaaat? How cool is that?! (Probably better than wrangling the two legged animals that I do π¬π) I'll definitely reach out to you later this week! π
Oo! Writer and author would be awesome to add! That is different from what I have, so far. I would love to get your perspective! I'm currently headed to a conference, but I'll reach out later in the week to get info, if that works. π
Our sweet girl, Bonnie, had a near death experience at an outreach event the other day! π± Luckily, she's fine.. and she gets a well-deserved break from being an outreach icon and queen! π·οΈπ She's a very good girl and just wants kids to know that.. while moving just a hair slower. Heard, Queen. π
I have formal education and one informal scicomm job on there, as well as extension. But I would always be happy to add others that may vary slightly from what I already have! This is definitely a more the merrier situation π
Our new friends at the Victoria Butterfly Garden sent us some Phyllium giganteum babies! I'm so excited to have them as part of our Insect Zoo! πΏπ¦π #leafbugs #insectzoo #entomology
