By deep characterisation of 186 N-glycan standards, we @thencfg.bsky.social have made the most comprehensive targeted LC-MS glycomic assay to date.
Non-reduced native glycan analysis is key.
We hope this enables anyone with QqQ and interest in #glycotime to measure specific N-glycan structures.

SpheriCal ESI: 295 - 1,550 Da | Polymer Factory Polymer Factory’s first ESI-designated calibration kit is based on hydrophilic dendritic macromolecules that cover the mass range between 295 and 1,550 Da. We are now offering this product as a pre-launch at small portion size of 5 µg at a beneficial price. Since we are eager to learn about the performance of our product on various platforms and under varying conditions, we offer further discounts for future orders of the fully released product in exchange for your feedback and shared data (spectra, spraying conditions, etc.). What makes SpheriCal® ESI unique? In contrast to other calibration solutions, we offer our calibrants as solid, neat compound. The material is fully soluble in hydrophilic solvents commonly used in ESI. This includes water, alcohols, aqueous mixtures of alcohols, aqueous ACN.Our compounds are “non-sticky” in the ion source and will not tail into your data. At the same time, the compatibility with a wide range of spraying solutions and conditions enables internal calibration.Further, SpheriCal® does not contain any fluorinated components. With a shelf life of years, we expect the 5 µg portions to enable about 100 calibrations.SpheriCal® offers reliable and accurate calibration, without the shelf-life and storage issues associated with protein or peptide-based systems. Simply freeze your aliquots once prepared. In positive mode, our compounds do not need addition of acetic or formic acid and ionize well with traces of Na to yield [M+Na]+. Addition of acid will also yield [M+H]+ in positive mode.In negative mode, addition of acid is required and yields [M+acid-H]- anions. [M-H]- might also be observed. This gives full control to the end user to choose concentration, solvent, addition of acid etc. Componets: C6H12O4; 148.074 g/mol* C12H22O8; 294.131 g/mol C20H36O12; 468.221 g/mol C25H44O16; 600.623 g/mol C30H52O20; 732.305 g/mol C37H62O22; 858.373 g/mol C40H70O25; 950.421 g/mol C50H84O30; 1,164.505 g/mol C65H108O40; 1,528.642 g/mol *Compound 1 varies in intensity depending on hardware and tuning and is not guaranteed to be detectable. An ‘Impossible’ Disease Outbreak in the Alps In one tiny town, more than a dozen people were diagnosed with the rare neurodegenerative disease ALS. Why?

Fascinating article about a cluster of ALS cases. If you think about it, this is a situation in which the researchers skimmed a large number of variables and identified a correlate which is then considered the potential cause.>

I am re-sharing since I don't get the feeling anyone noticed this pearl of wisdom (not by me). People I know who frequently "win" at pitches/proposals are following the Heilmeier formula: from simple communicating up to presenting concisely on project webpages to full on proposals.

🦷 Enamel proteins identify a female Byzantine ascetic - challenging assumptions that extreme religious self-punishment was just for men.

In harsh, arid environments where DNA doesn't survive, proteins in tooth enamel can still reveal biological sex.

Dr. Margaret Oakley Dayhoff

I took biochem in 2001, and for nearly 20 years read amino acid sequences daily… and I never knew Dayhoff named them or even the logic behind things like Q until last Friday (h/t Mike Janech). Also, this is another big Dayhoff moment for me. She was incredible!
