I just finished listening to @greeborunner.bsky.social discuss CPD at scale with @trustcpdleads.bsky.social. It was a brilliant session that reiterated for me the importance of knowing what difference you want the CPD to make, i.e., what problem are you trying to solve👌🏾.We often lose sight of this.

Flex isn’t complicated Two years ago I published a blog celebrating the 'lockdown babies' turning 3. Somehow, remarkably, our own lockdown baby turns 5 this week, leaving me wondering where that half-decade has gone.

Five years after having her baby, and two years after posting about COVID and lockdown, Salina Ventress returns to examine the subject of #flexibleworking and finding the right balance...

Thanks for this thread, Sue. I’ve just shown my mum, and we’ll get two. One for home and one for our allotment! She loves it- and I like the lack of mess 😂

I am incredibly fortunate to work with a board of trustees at TEAL who always seek to do what is right & always back our ideas to make better lives for young people & staff. I am delighted that this week we have agreed to extend full paid adoption leave to colleagues who become kinship carers.

Seeing lots celebrate #StrictlyComeDancing Chris and Dianne. Yep disabled people when supported, accommodated, and empowered can do amazing things. So, are you doing that? In your organisation, policies and practices.

Much as I loved the grown-up book & the TV series, I think the picture book version is even better! Every classroom & library in the country should have a copy of BLACK AND BRITISH: AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY by @davidolusoga.bsky.social illustrated by @jakeillustration.bsky.social & Melleny Taylor.

The cover of #DisruptiveWomen, a book by WomenEd. A woman with a megaphone.

Treating women educators and leaders inequitably eg, #GenderPayGap, lack of representation. In leadership, inflexible approaches and lack of diversity. 👿👿

‘Significant’ drop in racially minoritised characters in children’s books, report says Share of children’s books featuring characters who fall into this category fell from 30% in 2022 to 17% in 2023, CLPE survey finds

This is so very disappointing.

"These most recent, more sobering results, particularly after a summer of racially motivated riots, remind us that the job is far from done."

"I changed my belief that leadership was autocratic, all-knowing & dominating. @womened.bsky.social had shown me a different possibility: leadership that was collaborative, humble, caring, empowering, & that lifted others up." Loretta Fernando-Smith in 'Disruptive Women'

@samtwiselton.bsky.social said this:-

'We are losing teachers just at the point where they are achieving mastery and replacing them with a conveyer belt of novices'

Does your finance officer really understand teaching or only focused on balancing the books?

UPS3 teachers also lead whole-school initiatives, provide pastoral care, and support inspections with their expertise. Cutting them may save costs short-term but risks declining standards, higher turnover, and lost institutional knowledge vital for long-term school success.

Experienced UPS3 teachers bring stability, mentoring, and quality teaching that drive better student outcomes. They support ECTs, reduce turnover costs, and enhance school reputation, making them key to maintaining high standards and consistency, especially in challenging contexts.
