A #KoWenje fan with a side of misogyny, pretension, and pro-PRC sentiment, who is also a mummy's boy, that's what makes a #莮 in #Taiwan!

RIP: I hereby announce the death of the #佛系 #BobbyHill meme. The meme was tragically posted by #Taiwan's Ministry of Finance yesterday evening, resulting in its immediate passing from popular culture, god rest its soul. Reflect on its glory days here: www.translatingtaiwan.com/2018/07/26/b...
Have some craic this #StPatricksDay by making questionable #chess moves while three Guinnesses down! There is a range of brackets, so make sure you're in the right one before the tournament starts!

Have to say, I'm overwhelmed with the sheer amount of replies to this post. The answer was 「奶油筆觸」 (other translations are available from all good retailers).
A #buttery #wine is one of those terms you overthink when it comes to #translation. My ABC friend was trying to translate the concept at a wine bar near Yuanshan by resorting to all sorts of analogies, but can anyone guess what the wine list had in #Mandarin for "buttery notes"?
Threads trend poking fun at overly standard accents (Mainland influence), which pronounce 問 as ven.

Or maybe "to worry" (#JackHarlow), according to IKEA Taiwan. 🧐
Not to worry though, there are two make-up days tomorrow and the next before the #wintervacation starts.
Curious why so many children are flooding #Taipei streets during term time? Today is the end of semester. In process of finding out, stumbled upon this article on a teacher protest on Jan 25 against new rules on teacher hiring & firing

Despite two princesses in the mario franchise, they are bishops in the chess set. Luigi is the queen piece.

Love the turn of phrase describing the awkwardness of cross-strait family reunions 似近實遠 (seemingly close but distant in reality) in this very touching memoir of forgotten family links #銀波之舟 by #阮慶岳
Coming to a 7-11 near you
#CodeSwitching: co-workers discussing how bad it looks to shove a whole #mooncake into your mouth in #Mandarin, but switched to #Taiwanese to heighten the impact of the punchline & sound naggy, tsin pháinn-khuànn/真歹看.
某某: 月餅一口吃掉,「真歹看」
Somebody: Eating a mooncake all in one, it looks so bad!
Touching little story from 'The Water Asks from Whence it Flows' about a little red bug that doesn't like to walk on black ink imprisoned in an ever shrinking circle by the author; amid heightening panic it suddenly stops & makes its way through the black ink to the white page, defying expectations.
From the Threads post above:
KWJ: The bailiff was friendly to me; 90% of the bailiffs at the Taipei District Court are fans of KWJ.
Judge: The bailiffs are polite to everyone.

The 7-11 clerk smiled at me; he must fancy me.
Ultimate incarnation of average-looking guy acting like he’s god’s gift!
普信男 pǔxìnnán: My fav #genz from #Taiwan so far, used in this example to describe controversial white power advocate (sic.) & former Taipei mayor #KoWenJe.
A guy who is a solid 3 who thinks he's an 11 (average looking guy who acts like he's god's gift).
A very #GenZ example today, with a girl complaining about the lack of political awareness among online female knitting circles in #Taiwan 😂 ( #okboomer )
觸 chù is just a bastardization of the English word “true,” used in much the same way as “True that!” www.translatingtaiwan.com/2025/09/09/g...
解/好解 jiě/hǎo jiě “The ick,” something that turns you off someone you were initially into. I feel this is kind of an abbreviation for 「解脫」 jiětuō (to be freed of).
Got to love this example: "Do other girls get the ick from men who get tax rebates?" #nopovos www.translatingtaiwan.com/2025/09/09/g...
#GenZ slang from #Taiwan found in the wild:
暈爛 yūnlàn you like something so much you can't stop, even if overexposure makes you so dizzy you feel ill.
“I can’t get enough of guys with single eyelids and dark-framed glasses.”
