Resident doctors should not be instructed to sign-off potentially unsafe prescriptions.

Today, council chair Dr Phil Banfield has written to Mark Hackett, Interim Chief Executive University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust to raise serious concerns about unsafe working arrangements.

I don't understand why registration for PAs and AAs is voluntary. It should be a condition of their employment that they are registered for regulatory purposes with national standards for scope of practice. I also fail to understand the point of these roles existing.

Talking about starter packs again. Why? We need to find our community. Our interests. Build a new world away from EM & X. It works if we make it work. Starter packs speed this along! Follow and repost. Liking doesn’t boost posts on this algorithm. Repost content you like so folk find it! 🤩

Why Britain’s doctors are in revolt To save the NHS money, the General Medical Council has been pushing the use of physician associates in place of qualified doctors—and putting patients at risk

The whole point of the GMC is to keep patients safe from harm.

But what if, like OFWAT & OFCOM, it’s turning into another politically-neutered, failing regulator?

I cannot stand silently by as the GMC fails patients in the PA debacle.

Here’s why 👇

"Although multiple NHS bodies (the GMC included) insist publicly that PAs are not being used as substitute doctors, this is clearly happening, despite PAs’ more superficial training" @doctoroxford.bsky.social

I’m always struck by how the messy details of how people actually work, and why they work in the way they work - work-as-done - seem to receive so little attention in industrial, work and organizational psychology (or occupational and organisational psychology).

Complete relinquishing of anaesthetic conscientiousness, optimisation and nuance (CRAC‐ON) trial Click on the article title to read more.

Was talking to @maffygirl.bsky.social and @urethroplasty.bsky.social about this and thought I’d share.
Perhaps the greatest perioperative medicine trial (n)ever undertaken. The CRAC-ON trial.

Independent review into safety concerns raised by thousands of doctors and patients
But
No pause
In Uni admissions
In recruitment
In registration by GMC

PAs have been “reassured” that it is a PR tactic

I would agree as no steps taken to safeguard patients in meantime

Wes Streeting asked today in the House about scope for PAs. After usual woffle (essential role, they do what they alone can do, etc) it turns out there's a big announcement coming out soon....

A common misconception about pyschological safety is that is about being 'nice'. If the people banging on about #PsychologicalSafety actually read the literature rather than making assumptions, they would understand the highest level is *the ability to disagree*. Even robustly, if required.
