“Can we have a quick chat?”
For the person asking it is nothing. For the person receiving it those five words can trigger hours of anxiety before the conversation even happens.
That power gap is real. And most leaders have no idea it exists.
I wrote about this.

Trust is not built in big moments. It is built in the small ones.
The meeting where you said “I do not know.” The moment you asked for help instead of pretending you had it together.
Brave leaders are not fearless. They are just honest about being human.

One capable manager can make a difficult environment workable.
One poor manager can destroy psychological safety in an otherwise well-resourced, well-intentioned organisation.
Manager-level training on psychological safety isn't optional. It's where the actual risk lives. #psychologicalsafety
An inclusive team isn't just one where different people are hired.
It's one where different people feel safe enough to contribute -
- To share ideas
- Raise concerns
- Question decisions, and
- Make mistakes without fear
Psychological safety is the foundation of inclusion.

I have never met a leader who said they wanted their team to feel afraid to speak up.
But I have met plenty whose teams were.
The gap between intention and impact is where culture lives.
What does your team experience that you might not even be aware of?
#Leadership #Culture #PsychologicalSafety
Most people do not leave bad jobs. They leave bad cultures.
Most bad cultures are not created by bad people. They are created by good people who stopped feeling safe enough to say what they actually think.
That is the thing worth fixing first.
#Leadership #Culture #PsychologicalSafety
Most leaders I know are not short on intelligence. They are short on environments where intelligence can actually surface. That is a culture problem not a talent problem.
What are you doing this week to fix it?

Psychological safety is not about being comfortable. It's about being brave enough to be uncomfortable together. That's where trust is built and real work gets done.

Most people are very willing to help others when asked.
Yet many people who need help struggle to raise their hand and ask for it.
So the question is: who can you help today, simply by creating the space for them to ask?

The leaders I remember most weren't the loudest or the smartest in the room. They were the ones who made me feel safe enough to say what I actually thought. That changed everything.

It took me a long time to realise that the mood I carry into a room lands before my words do.
What do you think gets overlooked most in leadership?

Illustration of two colleagues in a workplace setting having a positive conversation. One person is thanking the other, while the other offers encouragement. Large text reads “Professional Wellbeing” and “What has helped you at work?”. Supporting text lists: “Clear expectations”, “Time to think”, and “Having someone you trust to talk to”. UMO logo in the corner.
Professional wellbeing is often shaped by small, consistent things.
Clear expectations.
Time to think.
Someone you trust to talk to.
What’s helped you?

Just the simplest definition:
Psychological safety = your people can speak up, push back, ask questions, and admit mistakes openly - without hasitation.
If that's not true in your organisation, you don't just have a culture problem. You are carrying lot of risks too!
#PsychologicalSafety
When I look at the fears we all carry, they almost always fall into one of two categories: the fear of not being enough, or the fear of losing control. T

Workplaces that value every voice foster trust, collaboration, and growth. Be open, listen with empathy, and make space for all.

Teams often thrive due to empathetic leaders who foster #PsychologicalSafety.
This is about so much more than simply being nice. #EmpatheticLeadership is about creating an environment where honest feedback, creative thinking, and continuous improvement flourish.

Every organization says it wants candor. But 1 in 3 employees who witness misconduct don't report it. Not because they lack insight but because the system taught them silence is safer.

That’s why I say team coaching isn’t a break from the work.
It’s the work that gives you your evenings, focus, and energy back.
What’s the real reason team coaching hasn’t started yet in your organization?

Your worst case? You accidentally created a work environment where people communicate without fear, share knowledge and quit less.
Truly tragic, I know. 🙃
If the risk is that asymmetrically distributed, what are we even debating? 🤔

We also challenged a phrase a lot of people hear at work
“Don’t bring me problems, bring me solutions”
That can backfire if it teaches people to hide problems until they have a perfect answer
Early signals matter 📡
