Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert Tooth Appears to Fall Out During Press Conference YouTube video by Storyful News & Weather

How bad are things looking for John Cornyn? Today he dragged out former Rep. Louis Gohmert – the guy who apparently swallowed his own tooth during a live interview – to endorse him.

One of Sousa's crowd-pleasing surprise touches was to have his tubas and sousaphones play the famous piccolo refrain from "Stars and Stripes Forever" a good five octaves lower, as in the video above.

Stars and Stripes Forever – New Sousa Band
Stars and Stripes Forever – New Sousa Band YouTube video by James Jones

Years ago I was able to see Keith Brion and his New Sousa Band in concert. Even better, it was at the Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston, on the same stage where Sousa and his band had played.

The GOP entered this redistricting under the rather childish delusion they were going to gerrymander, and nobody would gerrymander them. In TX, MO, and a half dozen other states, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind

So much false equivalence in media on gerrymandering in Texas vs California & Virginia. California and Virginia maps approved by the voters. That's a huge difference not enough people pointing out

Will also note that this redistricting subsets in four years, in 2030. It's time-limited. The Republican redistricting in my state, Texas, does not expire automatically and will remain until the Legislature does its usual cycle again in 2031 or '32.

Great article from War on the Rocks about the F-35, a magnificent aircraft built for fighting a different war.

“Lots of industries have awards for themselves.”

That’s not the problem. The problem is using it as an excuse to yuck it up and socialize with the public officials journalists are reporting on.

Exclude public officials and it would be fine.

I for one would enjoy it if journalists stopped pretending this dinner is anything besides a chance to source up their contacts list and flatter government officials. One of the ickiest rituals in Washington, imo, and that's not a Trump-era thing.

It’s a quandary because they can’t offload the containers for inspection without a container-handling port, and I doubt there are any anywhere nearby that want to touch this particular hot stove.

Fleet Week Houston Dinner at Lakewood Yacht Club

A big BRAVO ZULU goes out to Texas Navy Adm. Linda Elting, Squadron Commander of the Sam Houston Squadron, for the wonderful Fleet Week Houston Dinner she and her colleagues at Lakewood Yacht Club organized on Sunday evening. As Fleet Week Houston moves into its final days, it's clear the event has been a tremendous success for Houston, Galveston, and their surrounding communities.

Here, Texas Navy Association President Kat Howell (center) presents resolutions honoring Fleet Week Houston to Flag- and Commanding officers (l. to r.): Commander Arthur Bond, USN, USS MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL (LCS-21); Brigadier General David C. Hyman, USMC, Commanding General, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Western Recruiting Region; Commander Lee Shewmake, USN, USS ST. LOUIS (LCS-19); and Rear Admiral Kimberly Walz, USN, Reserve Director Maritime Operations, U.S. Fleet Forces Command.

Trump says we "are seeing what's on board!"

Good luck with that, sport. TOUSKA is a container vessel. A boarding party can look at manifests and other documentation, but they have no way of going through (likely) hundreds of individual, stacked containers to "see what's on board" anytime soon.

Before stepping in as a commissioner in 2022, Shuford served as the chief state epidemiologist at the health department and was credited with supporting the state’s public health response through the COVID-19 pandemic. More recently, she helped lead the state through the West Texas measles outbreak last year that infected 762 people and killed two children, the nation’s largest in 30 years. The agency spent more than $10 million to combat the outbreak, covering vaccination and testing clinics and an awareness campaign.

“That vaccine is highly effective and was the reason why measles was eliminated from the United States in the year 2000,” Shuford said on Texas Standard last year, during the height of the outbreak. “We know that that vaccine works, and that’s the best protection that we can get to communities at any time of a person’s lifetime, but especially during an outbreak.”

It does sound as though (article) that she was on the right and rational side of addressing the measles outbreak. You should say she "oversaw the **state's public health response to the** country’s largest measles outbreak in 30 years."

I remember during his first campaign for president someone from Fox News asked him, “are you an Old Testament guy, or a New Testament guy?“ Naturally, he evaded the question by mumbling and equivocating, but for an actual Christian that’s an easy question to answer.
