Last night, CBC Ideas broadcast selections from Stephen Lewis's 2005 Massey Lectures "Race Against Time." Just amazing. Have a listen:

Bombing infrastructure is totally sick. Hospitals, for instance, rely on power and water. Short-term generators can only last so long. Without supplies, they have no meds. You are killing those with cancer, kidney failure, and heart disease - taking away their final moments on Earth.
Screenshot of a post from Donald Trump: A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!
The President of the United States is openly threatening to commit genocide against 90 million people.
Prime Minister Carney: if there was ever a moment to denounce this illegal war, withdraw your support, and call for accountability for war crimes—it’s now.
Can you share some training materials and/or tips? I'm working to support Avi Lewis who was just elected leader of the NDP in Canada and we are looking to energize Democratic Socialists across all of Canada
An infographic titled "The Types of Open Access: A Field Guide," styled with Stardew Valley pixel art icons representing different materials. Ten types are listed: Gold Open Access (gold ingot icon): The journal has no paywall, generally paid for by authors through APCs (article processing charges). Diamond Open Access (blue diamond icon): Gold but no APC. Funded by an institution, scholarly society or collective. Hybrid Open Access (brown lump icon): This journal lets you pay a ransom to open individual articles but still charges subscription fees to the community. What a bargain! Green Open Access (grass icon): Author self-archives their own copy on a preprint server or research repository. Can usually be done with paywalled articles under certain conditions. Bronze Open Access (bronze ingot icon): It's freely available on the publisher's website but has no CC license. Is this a mistake? What is this? Silver Open Access (silver ingot icon): I'm giving a runner up prize. Could have been gold but for some reason the author chose a CC BY-NC-ND license. Pyrite "Fool's Gold" Open Access (pyrite nuggets icon): Oops! Predatory publishers will take your APC money, but their services are fake. Beware! Geode Open Access (geode icon): A librarian can break this open for you using the power of interlibrary loan. Black Open Access (skull and crossbones icon): I don't know who started calling it this, but it just means piracy. They'll steal anything, including OA valor. Slime Open Access (grey slime icon): Just slide into the author's DMs and ask for a PDF. You'd be surprised how often this works.

When people of differing views can all find a home in the NDP & hear their views articulated by various leaders, the tent grows. Conversely, when people who hold views that diverge from the leader are told to bite their tongues, they leave.

The statement Carney coulda made but chose not to.
Incredible commentary from this Swiss announcer, who accurately characterizes the Israeli team as "Self-defined zionist to the core...who posted several messages in favour of the genocide in Gaza...calling it ‘the most morally just war in history.’”
Solidarity to a real one.
A post i made back in August, reply to someone, occasionally gets liked (up to 80). But the likes comes in waves--10 in the last 24 hours, after months of no activity. Is that just a like refreshing the post in other's feed? Seems odd.

Defend workers’ rights. Introduce a bill of rights for gig workers to guarantee labour protections, collective bargaining rights, and fair wages. Build a 21st-Century Copyright Charter to guarantee fair compensation, enforce workers’ rights, and modernize licensing. Rein in digital surveillance in the workplace. Require AI transparency and consent from all Canadian companies.
Workers in the gig economy face precarious working conditions, low pay, and no protections.
Meanwhile, trillion-dollar tech corporations are profiting off artists, journalists, musicians, writers, and filmmakers – while paying little or nothing.
We need a new vision for the digital economy.
Text on green background: "Dignified Work in a Digital Age." Below, a logo reads "Lewis for Leader".
The NDP must be a political home for every worker – white collar, blue collar, or no collar.
That means defending workers’ rights that have been under attack for decades while confronting new threats posed by app-based gig work, AI, and precarious jobs.

Do Canadian MPs actually connect with the public on X?
I looked at RTs and views for every tweet* sent by Liberal MPs yesterday
Out of 46 tweets, 21 Liberal MPs racked up a combined 475 retweets
34% had zero RTs. Only 17% got more than 10 RTs
3 tweets accounted for over half of all engagement
If the NDP really wants to set themselves apart, this should be a no brainer for them.
