BREAKING: Scientists are staging a “science fair” in the lobby of a Congressional building to tell elected officials about the critical knowledge the US will lose because their research grants have been canceled.

Just finished. Hands down, essential read for all math teachers, admin, learning specialists.
I was part of a small book club of K-5 folks. This book is a MUST read for every math educator, coach and administrator.
Fearing "back to basics" talks circling Math education here in Ontario (because what does that mean?). @natbanting.bsky.social in his keynote speech on (re)defining "basics" as mathematical thinking; 4 A's to nurture student mathematical decision making is a focus on basics. ✅ #day2 #oame2025
Interesting! I was thing front and back.
I saw this on a fifth grader’s page:
A diagram of a circle labeled “2 sides.”
I asked him to explain.
“Well there’s an INside and an OUTside.”
What’s important in looking for a tutor for an elementary student with dyscalculia? There aren’t dyscalculia tutors like there are dyslexia trained tutors. @mathematize4all.bsky.social @martamath0901.bsky.social
One of the things I try to stress to educators when discussing UDL is that it will make the job of a teacher easier in the end. It is work to set up systems that allow for flexibility for all, but then the students are in the driving seat. Good for students, good for teachers
A challenge of teaching:
Sheesh...Phil Daro knocked my socks off in this conversation. You can hear the entire podcast conversation on Spotify.

Another thought. I think of Eleanor Duckworth's book The Having of Wonderful Ideas. Children often have wonderful ideas that may not be new to the universe but are new to them, and how they express themselves is uniquely theirs.
OK, enough advice.
What are folks views on calculator use in grade 5 for children with accommodation for it. How would you use it?
They say that our work should be "research informed," and yet they ignore the most robust research findings, like the importance of belonging for academic success and the importance of teacher communities for sustaining teachers in the profession.
Enough. Stop gaslighting educators.

Just watched Marta Garcia and Lynne Godfrey’s session. It was excellent! @martamath0901.bsky.social
This is an amazing opportunity.
#ITeachMath check out this framework for engaging administrators in reflecting on how ableism operates in our schools, created by a special education administrator. I love the connection to Disability Rights and activism! #CripCamp
Excellent and powerful article. I’m going to put this in front of my teachers and invite dialogue.
Beautifully crafted high quality math exploration building sets.
Every educator needs to read this. I was born in Rochester the same year as the author but we grew up in different worlds. It has inspired me to reflect and act.
Important story for math educators! ♾️
Are there books you recommend to learn more about dyscalculia and how to support students? @mathematize4all.bsky.social
One learning strategist said, “I wanted to highlight almost every word. There were so many YES, and Yes this!” And this was just on chapter 1!
Great first session with fabulous group of educators in our book club on @mathematize4all.bsky.social book Rethinking Disability and Mathematics.
When we make math this insurmountable mythical thing, folks who "get it" can tie being good at math to being better than other people. Therefore some lash out in anger at the idea that anyone can be good at math because it threatens their identity and self-worth. #NCTMCHI24
I think it was Eleanor Duckworth who said we should delight in our students.
We need to pay attention.
Just ordered @mathematize4all.bsky.social book Rethinking Disability and Mathematics! The Corwin discount code Raven25 still works and free shipping. Can’t wait!!
So what does this mean for what to do say in the classroom?
newperspectivesonlearning.com/pages/get-on... Just got the Grade 1 new problem strings book and it is fabulous! More subtraction and even strings for geometry and measurement! @CFLM #CathyFosnot
