The city's senior Canadian-rules Rugby-Football (the forerunner to the modern CFL game) clubs played at Diamond Park from 1908 through 1928, before switching to Renfrew Park in 1929.

The royal couple attended a Canadian Football game that day, as Winnipeg visited Clarke Stadium in the West Semi-Final vs Edmonton. The EE bested the Blue Bombers and advanced to the West Final.

In 1957, Edmonton and BC played the first pre-season CFL game in California at Kezar Stadium. 16,000 San Franciscans saw their first game of Canadian football, as the Green and Gold bested the Black and Orange 9-6.

30 years ago today in #HistorEE - Edmonton wins their 11th Grey Cup in club history, avenging their loss to Winnipeg 3 years earlier, winning 33-23. Damon Allen was Grey Cup MVP for the second time in Green and Gold, while Sean Fleming was Most Valuable Canadian, kicking 6 FGs, tying a GC record.

This is the 12th time Hamilton has hosted the Grey Cup the third-most of any city.
If Montreal wins, they will have eight Grey Cups, tied with Hamilton & Calgary.
If Winnipeg wins, they will have 13 Grey Cups, & be within one of tying Edmonton for 2nd place.

50 years ago today, Edmonton wins the West Final against Saskatchewan in a thick fog to go to the Grey Cup for the first time in 13 years. George McGowan scored the winning touchdown and Dave Cutler kicked 6 Field Goals to beat the Riders 25-23. #HistorEE

20 years ago today, Edmonton won their 12th Grey Cup, beating the Montreal Alouettes 34-22, avenging their loss in the 90th Grey Cup in 2002. Receiver Jason Tucker was named MOP, as sophomore QB Ricky Ray connected with him for two TD passes in the victory.

30 years ago today, Edmonton defeated the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders in the West Semi-Final. The CFL West teams had 4 clubs make the playoffs in 1993, as Edmonton hosted the Riders, and Calgary played the 4th place BC Lions. Edmonton would go on to win their 11th Grey Cup in club history.

40 years ago today, the EE Dynasty finally game to an end, after a decade of domination in the West division. Winnipeg beat Edmonton 49-22, as Warren Moon plays his final game in Green and Gold.

November 11, 1959. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers visit Edmonton for game 1 of the best-of-3 West Final. The Green and Gold lost 19-11, and would bow out in game 2, losing the series 2-0. This would be Jackie Parker's final playoff game wearing EE colours until returning as a coach in 1983. #HistorEE
