Fun day at #mathsconf40 today with Jill Hay and @drbennison.bsky.social. I learnt a new way of teaching inequalities to A Level Maths and FM that I’m excited about @blatherwicksam.bsky.social.
I loved trying some international exam questions with @mr-man-maths.bsky.social.

I totally agree that we should have high entry requirements, ours is a 7. My opinion is that we need to be kind to students and put them on a path that’s best for them, having to put a disproportionate amount of time into one A level may mean they can come out with ‘a grade’ like a D or E…

I agree with this for maths.
It’s also my first year teaching year 12 further maths, it’s so tight to fit in before the AS exam. I’m constantly amazed/annoyed at how much of it assumes the students have done all of the A level maths content too. So we have to quickly teach them extra stuff too! 🙄

Silverstone was a great first stop on our two day A Level Maths trip!
Next today is pizza express and Back to the Future Musical, tomorrow MathsFest!!

We only give it to them as independent work so don’t spend any lesson time! I can’t share the video but may be able to share the form, let me check!

We introduce it in year 12, one of my colleagues made a great video about it and all the key points, then we made a Microsoft form with some key questions for them to answer about it. We essentially set it as flipped learning for independent work. Then use some exam questions in lessons.

A friend of mine has just launched this website that I think is pretty great for generating quick starters for A-Level maths and he has started adding some questions for Further Maths too.

I had to look back at Goodreads to find one I gave 5 stars too (I read lots of books and I struggle to remember any 🤷🏻‍♀️) I mostly enjoy books that are easy to read before going to sleep!

Yes, this will be so useful for us too. We do ‘similar questions’ after each assessment (which are all last years questions all mixed up) and it will be amazing to not have to spend ages finding them!!
