Hey Kerry! It's three levels -essentially gr 10, 11 and 12 but is fluid! We are also trying to integrate across subjects so Ss who are not in the program can still experience design thinking challenges in their other subjects and Ss who are in the program can earn credit in their other courses

"The Overselling of Gratitude": my seasonally relevant challenge, based on a talk I gave a few Thanksgivings ago: Always being positive makes no more sense than always being negative. (Also, who benefits when everyone is reminded to count their blessings?)

Technology is a tool, not a learning outcomes. The graphic has right & wrong answers to the question "what do you want kids to do with technology?"

Telling me your shiny, new, expensive tool is teacher-proof is the only red flag I need to end a conversation immediately. It's an insult. Tools are nothing without teachers who can facilitate thoughtful use that pushes kids to think critically, ask questions & solve big problems. #EduSky

D1 (at the mall): Mom, why are you wiping out that cup and putting it in your purse

Me: Kid, I teach design thinking. When you come across innovation in a place your Ss recognize, you snatch that up as though your life depends on it!

D1: rolls eyes (but also smiles).

Happy birthday - it's actually mine too (although you have a few years on me...not rubbing it it, but rubbing it in). Hope your day is great and I think I will go do something nice for us both!

The MakerPort Chameleon Car
The MakerPort Chameleon Car YouTube video by Roger Wagner

This STEM/STEAM project uses the MakerPort, @microblocks.bsky.social, the TCS3472 color sensor (about $4 on Amazon), and a 24-element neopixel ring. The color of the car changes based on the color of the card inserted. www.youtube.com/watch?v=75Tk...

Watching the reactionary E.D. Hirschian "bunch o' facts" proponents criticize the equally reactionary phonics phanatics is like watching Christian nationalists go after libertarian privatizers. No to you, sir, and also no to YOU.
Let me explain.

A3. Our Mayor hosts and environmental expo each year and my students host booths to showcase their work to other students and industry professionals. Having said that, I am always looking for more authentic ways to showcase student work!

A2. Ss explore the SDGs in our introductory unit! They get to pick one that resonates with them and research it to develop an educational product that communicates what the goal is all about for a younger S audience. Students can develop automatons, games or videos as their product!

Hey Nick! I'm Karen and I am a teacher in Calgary, Canada. I was an elem teacher for 25 years and switched to high school this year to develop a design thinking program and open a STEAM lab. My favourite thing to make is anything I haven't made before along side my Ss.
