So sorry to read this. Gone are the days I thought of HE as an industry I would be proud to recommend as a career. So many good people affected, lives impacted, and so much expertise and care lost for no obvious reason.

A reminder that if any of you are reading ‘How to Lay an Egg with a Horse Inside’ and are thinking ‘I’d really like to see a show based on that book, in which the author reads some poems from it, while making acute observations of the human condition’, then there’s a show which does exactly that.
I haven’t got past $4000 yet but I’m totally addicted!

Daz the greyhound walking on Bacton beach. Blue skies. Lots of sand.
Happisburgh lighthouse surrounded by a field of bright yellow oil seed rape, both catching the sun with ominous looking dark grey skies in the background
Derelict windmill with broken blades next to a reed-lined river. Blue skies and wispy clouds.
Daz the greyhound, fast asleep on his bed and tartan duvet with his head on the floor.

As GenAI continues to evolve and agentic systems emerge, assessment design in HE is entering a new phase. Detection-based responses are not sustainable. Structural redesign is. I’ve updated the Assessment Redesign Framework for 2026 to reflect this: arf.genain3.ie @kenmccarthy.ie #genai #assessment
Me too. Those lips! Shocked it was real.
I used a birthday voucher when I was just 14 to buy 1984. My Mum wasn’t with me and looked mortified when I showed her. Didn’t try to stop me reading it which I’ll be forever grateful for.
Beautiful. This was ours. Not as calm but relaxing still.
