I’m pretty late to video editing but this week recorded the assembly process of our Seal Cubs. The dry bit anyway. I looked for EU based video apps and tried Splice and Mojo. Here’s 10 mins of cutting and sewing in under 2 in our Dublin shop

The 2026 restock has started with our wool felt fish. The fins are cut from felt manufacturer scraps so we’ve changed our filling for these to recycled yarn (reverse milled from industry waste) to boost sustainability a little more!

It’s December! Calling last orders for anywhere outside Europe.

Correction, Sunday 30th!!
For the last couple of years on our boys’ school fete Sunday we’ve handed over our shop to @annarave.bsky.social who makes our beanies to hold a pop up for her own knitwear. Call down this Sunday 29th Nov to have a look! #speirgorm #irishdesign
They’ve been from the shop only for a year or so as I wanted to see people try them on and how they fit different heads but they’re online now.

We have our favourite wools that we make our animals with spun into yarns and work with @annarave.bsky.social to knit simple beanies that are all about the natural shades and texture of the wools.
Always delighted to be included in the 100 best shops in Ireland by The Gloss and The Shopkeepers - despite our difficult relationship with shoplike opening hours! Thanks so much

Good luck to all the animators submitting their shorts this Saturday, I hope to go and watch them myself.

Although they often use our own techniques and methods it’s a chance to think outside the box on aspects that are slightly different to our own work. This one’s not too different to a Beaver we might make, except the colour!
We were recently asked to make a trophy for the Dublin Animation Meet-up (DAM) Audience Award based on their Beaver character.
I love bringing other people’s illustrations to life and usually do one or two of these projects each year.
Our robins are made with natural brown Merino around Galway stuffing with a patch of dyed merino attached at hand felting stage. Beaks and feet are cut from taupe coloured sheet wool felt and they’re all stitched together with natural Shetland yarn which also does the eyes.
Youngest is on a sick day so I’ve brought robins home to sew while he naps.

Cutting felt feet and beak pieces for our Robins at home. We need a lot of these this time of year.

Our Christmas cards use scraps and offcuts of wool felt, stuck with eco glue over a print of a tree trunk drawing on recycled card and come with a recycled envelope packed in clear cornstarch cellophane.
Pick out a selection Instore!

These are some of our favourite commonly used wools for our felt animals, sent to a mill for spinning, just back today.

We’re settled back into a new school term so shop opening hours will be 10 - 2 weekdays (bar the inevitable few sick days!)
We’ve been working on our Autumn/Winter pieces over the summer with customer favourite Robins out on the shelves this week.

We’ve been working with 100% Irish Galway Wool for a batch of sheep - it’s normally the just the stuffing as it’s SO hard to work with as an outside layer.
A few other favourites that can be all white on the way.

Here today, most of the others but not worked out exactly which yet (childcare to work around!)
Puffins were a special request by @cleoltd.bsky.social (though we try to keep a few at our shop). For years I thought there was too many details for puffins to work - all the colours in the beak, the. Icy markings, the shape - it this is how we’ve simplified it for our range

I’ve been in Kildare at my father in law’s funeral and met his uncle who is 93 and told me he owned Smithfield Motor Company which was situated on the same road as my shop, Benburb St. I found these photos and it seems to be opposite current Fidelity bar, where Bargaintown is now.

Sounds like a lot of things are not going well in this guy’s life, but probably deservedly so
I think the word he’s looking for is neglect, they neglect more important things for “top jobs”
