Neural trajectory plot showing neural activity moving through orthogonal corollary discharge and feedback signal subspaces

Neural trajectory plot showing neural activity moving through orthogonal corollary discharge and feedback signal subspaces

New preprint! 🧵🧪🧠

doi.org/10.64898/202...

Upshot: somatosensory cortex contains both feedback *and* intended movement signals (a.k.a. corollary discharge). These two signals exist orthogonally in neural space, flexibly allowing both fast state estimation and external perturbation detection. 1/

100+ year old Pasteur Institute in Tehran was a premier infectious disease research institute and vaccine manufacturer

It is a reason Iranian kids like me born in 60s had access to measles vaccines soon after they were developed in the west

Pasteur Institute of Iran, founded in 1920 now destroyed by Israel-US bombing😞

It played a pivotal role in developing vaccines & public health services, for over a century, now gone😞

A few days ago a pharmaceutical plant was bombed, accused of making anesthetic fentanyl

1/8 New preprint alert!

How are signals from the heart encoded in the brain?
What could be the functional implications of cardioception?

We found that neurons in the posterior insular cortex are precisely tuned to heartbeats, and that this cardio-insular coupling supports emotion coding in mice.

Scientists no Longer Find Twitter Professionally Useful, and have Switched to Bluesky Synopsis. Social media has become widely used by the scientific community for a variety of professional uses, including networking and public outreach. For

Bluesky is the new science Twitter, new study by @whysharksmatter.bsky.social and Julia Wester concludes!

"Results show that for every reported professional benefit that scientists once gained from Twitter, scientists can now gain that benefit more effectively on Bluesky than on Twitter."

New paper alert! 🚨

We found that the brain's compass is remarkably stable at two scales

1️⃣ the system maintains its internal organization for weeks
2️⃣ It "remembers" its orientation for weeks, even after a single visit

This may be key to how the brain aligns its other maps.
