Excited to announce the re-establishment of the Central New York Branch of the American Society for Microbiology (CNY ASM)! Founded in 1921, revived in 2025 to support collaboration, inclusive programming, and microbiologists at all career stages! This is our official BlueSky account!
It's that time of year again! I'm looking for suggestions of 'emerging' model organisms for my #CellBio course's final proj:

I am working with ASM to re-launch the Central NY ASM Branch! 🧫🦠
We have funds allocated for us and now just need 25 signatures from ASM members in the geographic region in support of this branch.
More info is in the form and also I’ve attached a FAQ sheet.

In many industries, DEI is not a ‘nice thing to have’ but a crucial requirement for survival and growth.
I’m furious about this. I’ve published in ASM journals for 20 years, been a reviewer, editorial board member, senior editor, and served on the MICROBE program committee. In the past 10 years ASM has taken inclusivity seriously and has actively recruited diverse members and leadership… 1/2
Yes, I did just discover starter packs. Hello!
If you... like me... have found a lot of cool/relevant starter packs only to lose them again, here is a really useful tool - search starter packs:

Hi, #AcademiaSky! I'm a #newPI gearing up to teach a mid-level #CellBio course in spring 25. I'm implementing a final project where students work in small groups to make a poster on an emerging model organism in cell bio.
Please suggest potential taxa! Bonus points if you include a paper! (1/N)
Around this time, some people start putting up seasonal decorations. I do that too, except I also change my RStudio theme to "Yule", and I swear that adds to the seasonal splendor: www.garrickadenbuie.com/project/rsth...
Excited to share our latest study presenting a new skin-derived isolate collection demonstrating extensive antimicrobial activity and uncharacterized BGCs. This was a long-term and huge team effort led by Thy Nguyen, Shelby Sandstrom, and @raufs.bsky.social . #MicroSky #secmet #skinmicrobiome
Hi Bluesky! I am excited to see the influx of scientists here! Our lab studies the skin microbiome including microbial biomarkers of wound infections and identifying bioactive molecules produced by skin microbes. We are recruiting to our lab at McMaster University, please connect and share!
