Sea Pen eggs? Since I spotted this I feel obligated to inspect every sea pen I swim by. #octocoralFriday 🤿
Happy Birthday tiny cabezon 🎉🎂
Cabezon eggs- hope these little guys survive the larval stage (Cabrillo Point, Monterey Bay)

1/3 Today in the Federal Register the USFWS is recommending the Barrens Darter, Etheostoma forbesi be listed as Endangered under the Endangered Species Act

They seemed common at both sites we dived in the bay (Aumentos and Metridium Mountain-close to the Monterey bay aquarium). Someone in the boat said that were diseased but I haven’t been able to find research about it.
I hope to get out again today-probably at San Carlos beach.
I didn’t mean to imply that these are connected-other than they are all echinoderms

Odd echinoderms in Monterey Bay on Saturday. Shoals of little sand dollars(sand nickels) @50ft. Also a sea cucumber half off a rock in an L shape. The photo of the exposed part looked extremely red? Also, white diseased urchins everywhere. What’s going on?
Sickly White Sea urchins in Monterey Bay- anyone know what’s causing this? #invertebrate #urchin 🤿
I debated between print book and audio-until I saw that the print version has a little section of color photos (can’t resist pictures 🤷♀️) love the book and I might “reread” in audio.

Fly, little website, fly.
SaltwaterFocus.com is now live.
A quiet place to get lost in the beauty, complexity, and strangeness of the ocean.
More soon.
If you haven’t yet, Natalie Haynes Stands Up For the Classics is one of my favorite podcast series-educational hilarity
Also thanks for dropping me into the “wormhole” of penis fencing. I ❤️ inverts.
Thank you-hard to find an identification of an animal that looks like a patch of goo.
I think this is a worm. I also think it’s Wednesday. Found this in a touch tank. #WORMWEDNESDAY
My #molluscmonday #melibe contribution. I feel like this cheating because it was in a tank, not in the wild.#weirdrulesisetformyself
Head of a keyhole limpet. It’s black and it looks like it’s wearing a helmet .
I’m working on a project to determine if looking at ocean images could evoke feelings of awe.
It would be super helpful if you could scroll through the photos and select an emoji reflecting your level of awe-smile being the most awesome, frown the least.

The same person who told me I couldn’t start the new ice cream until the old one was finished-even if it was black walnut or rum raisin.
The horror!

If I were a nudibranch I’d probably be an Armina californica.🤿

🤿 Sunday Monterey dive in the kelp forest. I was pointing my camera up to catch the sunlight through the canopy and wasn’t looking at the screen. I didn’t know a big friend swam over me at the end until I saw the video at home
a shrimp with eyelashes is wearing her little black sneakers and holding a pail of glue and a paintbrush dripping with glue, after clearly just having wheatpasted a poster that says FUCK ELON FUND NOAA on a wall that says "Post no gills" three times. She is smiling a pure little smile and blushing. The posters is dripping with blue too.
Being a rascal is good and pure behavior, when you are rascal in opposition to evil. Don't forget that, kids.
