Our #ESAEuclid is already sending data through New Norcia 3 😀

The four Artemis II astronauts just set a record for human distance from Earth, 400.000 km. This also explains why "service" missions to #ESAEuclid, #JWST, or #ESAGaia are unlikely (and currently impossible): their location at the Sun-Earth L2-point is ~1.5 million km away.

Euclid’s view of M78 is in the background. A filamentary orange veil covers a bright region of star formation. The background is dark, stippled with stars and galaxies ranging from small bright dots to starry shapes. The foreground veil spans from upper left to the bottom right and resembles a seahorse. Bright stars light up the ‘eye’ and ‘chest’ regions of the seahorse with purple light. Within the tail, three bright spots sit in a traffic-light like formation. In the foreground, placed on top of M78, is a “Dark Universe Detectives” logo and below this the University of Edinburgh and Euclid Consortium Logos

In partnership with The University of Edinburgh, can find us at Dynamic Earth during Edinburgh Science Festival next week and we *cannot* wait!

#ESAEuclid was launched 1000 days ago. 🥳

@science.esa.int has already released #Euclid's Q1 dataset, Q2 (in the Galactic Bulge) and ~1900 deg² extragalactic data in DR1 will follow later this year. All instruments are healthly, satellite is working fine.

3d-printed model of the Euclid spacecraft at 1:64 scale, standing on an open hand.

We also printed it scaled down by a factor 4, but this 1:64 scale version, while cute, is really at the limit of printability for the smallest parts.

Good choice of ship: the MN Colibri already transported #JWST from the US to Kourou, and our #ESAEuclid telescope from Europe to Florida. Can recommend, would use again :-)

When you combine wide field imaging of #ESAEuclid and smaller field but 2x higher resolution imaging by #HubbleSpaceTelescope the result will be stunning: a joint look at the Cat's Eyes Nebula, NGC 6543.

In a few months, as part of Euclid's Data Release 1, we'll also have a deep multi-band Euclid-only view on the nebula. It will also be incredible. Deep and with a lot of detail.
