I appreciate this early review of 'Stories of the Stones' from Library Journal: 'an intriguing chronology of the human imagination regarding Neolithic stone monuments... This book belongs in all library collections as an important addition to archaeological studies of prehistoric monuments.'

#standingstonesunday a regular visit Duloe stone circle yesterday. Remarkable for the huge quartz stones. What’s the path out of the circle leading nowhere?
Nice! I recently acquired one of his, eagerly anticipating reading it …
Wow those carvings! ❤️
Well defined, concentric double rings and cups carvings on a sandstone outcrop on Tod Crag, near Ottercops Moss, Northumberland
Quite the boggy, marshy, hardy heather root and tussocky grass strewn hike to Tod Crag yesterday. In northern Britain, 'cup and ring mark' rock art falls within the 4000-1500 BC period. Definitely a venerable contender for #WeekOForOld #AlphabetChallenge #Northumberland #archaeosky

Trethevy Quoit, near St Cleer in Cornwall, is a neolithic ‘dolmen’ burial chamber, so is quite old!

"Why do I think of it as liquid? Can you answer me that? I mean, it’s obvious that it’s solid, a solid entity. One of the others gave it a name, the Diamond Egg. Now that’s what everyone calls it ... I feel I carry it with me, the way a taste sometimes lingers in the mouth."

This week I visited @salisburymuseum.bsky.social for the first time ... OMG the Wessex Gallery – wow! Just so full of iconic treasures. My very favourite thing was this beautiful jadeite axe. A precious object 6,000 years ago and still so today.
THIS WEDNESDAY COMING (the 22nd) @smpierce.bsky.social and I will be speaking at a Folde bookshop event in Shaftesbury, all about the wild and the ancient and the role of landscape in our emotional lives ... I think it's going to be a really special evening. www.ticketsource.com/folde-dorset...

The beautiful red sandstone of Lindisfarne priory, turned to honeycomb by centuries of wind and rain.
Hadrian’s Wall turned out to be pretty epic. And good to see the sycamore is sprouting again!

#TombTuesday following a night of incredible lunar exploration & achievement, time for some Neolithic kudos to the builders of the enormous Browne's Hill dolmen in Ireland 😮🔥💪
I visited on a cycling tour - a human scale is essential to appreciate the size of the tomb
Extraordinary

Nice. My dad (a Robertson like you!) was born in Spittal, though the family lived in Edinburgh. I think they had relatives living there.
Fantastic! I wish I lived close by 💚
