I think the reason AI propagandists are so flustered by the fact that no real writer wants to use their idiotic tools is that they themselves don't enjoy writing. They see it as a boring arduous chore to be avoided, while real writers actually enjoy writing and actually care about the quality of it.

If reviewers truly care to improve the work, then provide suggestions: give advice on how to improve analysis, on other sources to consider, etc. Criticisms, when given constructively, are GOOD. But when it's clear that they are being made to stoke the reviewer's ego, then they're meaningless. /2

For reviewers who know that the book they're reviewing is by a junior scholar, and decide to punch down + deliver ad hominem attacks that don't help improve the work - and that use anonymity as an opportunity to bloviate -I see you. And know that our world is small so I probably know you too. /1
