Another post for National Poetry Month:

"The advantage of poetry over life
is that poetry, if it is sharp enough,
may last."

It's an idiosyncratic list. Nicely done.

To see or not to see? Every single Shakespeare play – ranked! Antony and Cleopatra? Exhausting. Lear? Magnificent but flawed. Hamlet? Limitless. For Shakespeare’s birthday, the Guardian’s former theatre critic ranks all the plays

Every Shakespeare play ranked. What's your favourite?

I've spent the best of a year around Shropshire and fell in love.

Southwest Germany. Lots of vineyards.

Here as well but nothing beats The Shire. Tolkien knew as well.

I think all the time about Jack Kerouac heckling Frank O’Hara that he was ruining American poetry & O’Hara responding without a beat, “That’s more than you ever did for it”

Text:
Letter to the Person Who Carved His Initials into the Oldest Living Longleaf Pine by Matthew Olzmann
-Southern Pines, NC
Tell me what it's like to live without
curiosity, without awe. To sail
on clear water, rolling your eyes
at the kelp reefs swaying
beneath you, ignoring the flicker
of mermaid scales in the mist,
looking at the world and feeling
only boredom. To stand
on the precipice of some wild valley,
the eagles circling, a herd of caribou booming below, and to yawn
with indifference. To discover
something primordial and holy.
To have the smell of the earth
welcome you to everywhere.
To take it all in, and then,
to reach for your knife.

This is a major European victory over Putin and Trump. Let us celebrate.
We are 600 million in Europe. Russia and the US put together not even 500 million.

Big bright orange lettering in a vaguely graffiti/marker style with big black drop shadow reading ‘Maybe it will happen today’. At the bottom in front of the lettering is a small cartoon turtle with a little hourglass on its back.
