That's the cover I had! It's the first Chalet book I ever read.
What are you writing?

Agreed. One of the pizza places in York allows you to order it, but charges £200. I forget which one it is.

I love that someone took the time to research and present this. Quite biased towards dogs over cats, but perhaps that reflects the natural prejudices of the rail-travelling public.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

I very much enjoy unusual plurals, but I would go with the simple Shrove Tuesdays for this one.
A supplementary question: how many are you having and when (and why)?

That's rather disturbing. I've always understood it to mean radically changing the C of E so we are actually inclusive.
P.S. I still think you should stand for synod. Good commentary yesterday.

On the train to #synod. Time to read some more of the papers so I've a chance of knowing what is happening. #CofEpeeps

Still pinching myself a bit that it's really happened.

A very pleasing book hoard (and incomplete, with some Christmas money to spend).

This is so exciting! I thought this series was just a series of 4, one which I deeply enjoyed as a young person and have shared with my own kids. Looks like I'll be getting the rest of the series soon.

I ordered and received your book as an extra Christmas present for me from me. I spent a very pleasant hour reading it this morning. Excellent. Thoroughly recommend.

Happy Christmas to all at #clergymaltclub. Just a token sip of some Cooper King tonight.

A reminder in advance of everyone descending upon their relatives next week: the best thing about Old Twitter — @rhodri.biz #DuvetKnowItsChristmas — has moved to Bluesky.

Post & hashtag your pics of having to sleep in the bathtub/beside the ironing/with the dog, and raise money for the homeless ♥️

36 Lessons and Carols over 5 days completed. (We took yesterday off). Very sad to be leaving that church and choir.

Congratulations! This sounds like a great move.

The liturgy is an exploration of the advent antiphons, hearing the biblical sources of the various names of Jesus. Good advent hymns too.

Beautiful Advent carol service this evening at the Churches Conservation Trust church of Holy Trinity Goodramgate. The choir: Caelestis, were impressive. Lovely range of music including Latin plainsong, Byrd, Rachmaninov and the gorgeous "In the Stillness".

This week, I've started my schedule of final services in each of my churches. It's a hard thing to say goodbye to people you expected to be with for many more years.

Five trips to the charity shop, four advent calendars bought, three floors of the house hoovered, two pizzas made and a batch of mincemeat chopped and prepped. #dayoff

Diocesan synod on Zoom tomorrow morning. I can't remember when it became my tradition to cook the mincemeat that day, but that's what I do. Easy to stir it every 20 minutes while it cools when you are in a multi hour online meeting. It's all chopped and mixed and steeping overnight. #CofEpeeps

Lovely evening at Market Weighton inducting and installing a new Rector. Friendly people, full church, lovely music, epic buffet. I remember the pies from a previous visit. Still excellent. Prayers for Robert as he takes on this role.

Carry On films were a major part of my childhood. Alongside The Railway Children, pretty much the only films I saw until I was a teenager. The lore... love it.

Today, I spent 10 minutes fixing a hole on the left sleeve of my favourite knitted jacket. Not sure whether to put the darning materials away.

Yesterday, I spent 10 minutes fixing a hole on the right sleeve of my favourite knitted jacket. Feeling pleased with myself, I packed the darning materials away, put on the jacket and noticed a whacking great hole on the left sleeve. #knitting

New Tolkien book – The Bovadium Fragments – is satire on industrialisation HarperCollins has announced that J.R.R. Tolkien's The Bovadium Fragments will be released on 9 October 2025.

Have you heard about The Bovadium Fragments, the new #Tolkien book published three weeks ago (and the last to be edited by Christopher Tolkien)?

The Fragments are a satire on the impact of cars, and highlight again Tolkien's concern for the environment.
