Finishing and testing a tea light holder, which I turned recently during a wood turning course. The wood is walnut with a rim made from lime.

The beginning of a very lengthy project. So far, it is just some turning of a piece of walnut. But this piece has a long road ahead 😎

Thank you for sharing! I removed the bark some days ago and indeed, it looks somewhat similar to what you have shown. I am starting to be convinced that it is beech 😊

This would be great!

It is not much harder than usual hard woods. The tree grew in Europe, and it is probably not pecan. (You made me curious to try turning pecan one day, though. 😊) The majority vote suggests that it is beech. But the investigation continues...

Thank you! Two other people suggest the same. I think that I have found my answer.

I don't know it. But already three out of three people have suggested that it is beech. Based on this majority vote, I expect that your suggestion is correct 😊

Yes, I find it especially hard to get a smooth surface on the inside.

I practiced turning a hollow form. It is made from walnut. The wall got much thinner than I had initially planned, probably around 2 millimeters at the thinnest part.
The inner surface is still a bit rough, though, indicating the need for more practice ☺️

Thank you! Turning this piece of wenge was indeed quite challenging and also annoying due to the strange shavings. I will probably take a longer break from turning wenge after this one πŸ˜…
