It is not much harder than usual hard woods. The tree grew in Europe, and it is probably not pecan. (You made me curious to try turning pecan one day, though. 😊) The majority vote suggests that it is beech. But the investigation continues...

Yes, I find it especially hard to get a smooth surface on the inside.

Hollow form made from walnut. It is finished with walnut oil, polished, and waxed using carnauba wax.

Side view. I choose the orientation of the wood such that the bright part is on top.

I practiced turning a hollow form. It is made from walnut. The wall got much thinner than I had initially planned, probably around 2 millimeters at the thinnest part.
The inner surface is still a bit rough, though, indicating the need for more practice ☺️
