🗞️ At the Weizenbaum Institute today: workshop “What is News? Platforms, Audiences & Algorithms.” With colleagues from the @reutersinstitute.bsky.social, we’re exploring how societies get informed in the digital age. Plus a hybrid lunch talk on how changing ideas of “news” may reshape journalism.

On last day of #aoir2025 @lionw.bsky.social presents our @weizenbauminstitut.bsky.social work on TikTok data donation from the 2025 German Federal Election - only 5% of content was political and the Left party could capitalize most in reaching voters of other parties with their content on TT.

This was a great roundtable, lots of important questions from the audience, giving the impression that data donations will be around for longer, if we get it right (based on comments from the audience on postcards) #aoir2025

We compared 6 beeps/day vs. 12 beeps in 2 h bursts.
Both work, but burst designs show more fatigue + attrition — still useful if high temporal precision matters.

Today, the @ec.europa.eu adopted the Delegated Act for Article 40 of the Digital Services Act (DSA) – a long-anticipated milestone enabling researchers to request access to non-public platform data under Article 40.4.
